What a wonderful photo, taken and then framed and given to us by some very special visitors. The Jarvis family have been coming to stay, every summer, for around 18 years, Matt has turned into a very talented photographer and this is the proof, now hanging in our kitchen.

Nestled in the heart of Exmoor National Park, Lynmouth boasts a rich and fascinating history. The village's origins can be traced back to medieval times, when it served as a bustling trading port, primarily exporting locally produced wool and other goods. Lynmouth's strategic location at the confluence of the East Lyn and West Lyn rivers made it a hub for maritime activities. However, the village's history took a tragic turn in 1952 when it was devastated by a catastrophic flood. The disaster, known as the Lynmouth Flood, resulted in the loss of numerous lives and widespread destruction of properties. Despite this tragedy, Lynmouth has since rebuilt and thrived, becoming a popular tourist destination renowned for its natural beauty, charming architecture, and the unique water-powered funicular railway that connects it to the neighbouring town of Lynton. Today, Lynmouth stands as a testament to the resilience and spirit of its community, offering visitors a glimpse into its storied past while embracing the beauty of its coastal surroundings.

Have you ever visited Lynmouth?

It's time for our Wednesday round-up of what is happening this week at The Bell!

***Please note we are open as usual this week, despite the road closure - you can still access the pub as usual from Saltrens direction and via Plumpers if you're coming from Frithelstock or beyond.***

The biggest news is of course that this Saturday sees our first Burger & Bands event for 2023! With The Neil Sadler Band and 9 Yards here to entertain you, we will be opening from 5pm, with the music starting around 6.30pm. Burgers are available all evening and we'll be hosting in our marquee and garden, so we have protection from the elements if the weather breaks!

No need to book, just come along. It's always best to grab a lift, car share or book a taxi if you can (event closes at 11.30pm), as our car park gets busy for these events.

Otherwise, we have our usual activities - friendly darts on Thursday, Chatty Cafe on Saturday lunchtime and we're open on Sunday delivering our smokehouse and grill menu to satisfy any appetite!

Here it is, our evening menu with our new summer sides! A homemade warm potato salad and our ever-popular homemade coleslaw is back. Both are vegan too!
