Scanning day!
Scanning day! Our breeding ewes have been scanned so we can officially start the countdown to Spring Lambing 2024! Just over 3 weeks to go...
Most sheep scan for 1 or 2 lambs, sometimes 3 and sometimes none. They are all coded, so we know by a coloured dot on them how lambs they are due to have
If you are wanting to see some of the Lambing action the best time to visit is last week of March and first 3 weeks of April. We still have some availability, although Easter Holidays are filling up fast

๐ณ ๐ณTree planting๐ณ๐ณ
A soggy but very satisfying afternoon spent planting 50+ trees in this young woodland. There was a mixture of green beech, English oak, holly, silver birch. Thanks to @nfu_mutual for sending them our way
We look forward to seeing the result in many years to come!
Scanning Time
Singles, twins, triplets or none at all โ
@thescanninglady came to scan all the ewes. She marks each ewe with a different colour spray paint which tells us how lambs sheโs expecting
Time to think about your spring getaways. If you wish to see lambs skipping around then lambing starts the last week of March.
THIS MORNINGS VIEWS
Mornings like these are just the best โ๏ธโ๏ธ
These ewes are being scanned this week to tell us how many lambs theyโre expecting.
An important day for many reasons: tells us how well the rams have worked, helps us plan ahead for spring lambing, forecasting how many spring lambs we can expect to have in total etc
Let us know if you have any questions about sheep scanning ๐คโ๐๐ฝโโ๏ธ
One of the most satisfying jobs on the farm... sheep shearing. The lockdown haircuts in full swing
.
Amazing work as always from the shearers. The job itself is very physically demanding and the heat also makes it a challenge. At least they have the summer headwear โ๏ธsorted
.
It is always a logistical process: getting all the sheep to the shearing field without mixing the different flocks together. Shearers donโt like to be left waiting between different flocks of sheep
.
Any guesses for how long it takes to shear a sheep?
If only it happened that quickly๐จ
.
Apologies to the cars, walkers and cyclists who had to wait or take detours whilst we took over the country lane for 20 mins. We always try to miss the rush hours ๐ตโโ๏ธ
.
Itโs great getting sheep out until fields with more grass. This May rain has certainly helped the farmers as the grass has come through โ๏ธ
One of our favourite scenes is of lambs skipping around fields ๐
.
These lambs are taking inspiration from last weekendโs Grand National ๐
.
Lambs doing well here at Church Farm. We are down to single figures with ewes left to lamb ๐
๐ฅLambing 2021 is officially underway
.
Perfect timing for the spring equinox
.
A healthy set of twins to get us started
.
Good mum โ๏ธ, lambs already up and about โ๏ธ, spring weather โ๏ธ, milk โ๏ธ, field to themselves โ๏ธ

๐ก Reopening for stays in the cottages on 12th April. Book a stay and see some the lambs skipping around the fields
