A BEAUTIFUL PAINTING OF YOUR HORSE OR DOG FOR CHRISTMAS!

I just thought I must mention to our Facebook friends that a local Somerset artist and friend of mine, Jane Keen, has just started taking commissions for her beautiful watercolours of animals. They’d make a perfect Christmas or birthday present for anyone with a special pet/horse/dog/cow as they seem to capture so much of the animal’s expression and character. Please do either contact me through the usual [email protected] or jane on [email protected] if you are interested or have any questions. But don’t hang around if you’re hoping to surprise someone at Christmas! Her prices are very reasonable!

AUTUMN AND WINTER BREAKS IN THE QUANTOCK HILLS

The Quantock Hills are spectacular in the autumn and winter, and a great place for long walks or rides. And at Pardlestone Farm, we have a few days remaining in our self-catering cottages in November, and plenty of December dates. For those who don’t know the Quantocks, they really are southern England’s best kept secret and one of few remaining UK wildernesses. Heathlands are criss-crossed with grassy tracks – perfect for riding and walking – and deep cut combes feature mossy undergrowth and sparking, fern-banked streams. With autumn colours into the bargain – usually hanging on into November – there is no better place for a short break. Pardlestone Farm is also less than two miles from west Somerst's stunning Jurassic coast (also an SSSI) and within walking distance of an award-winning, dog-friendly pub. Horses and dogs are welcome. Here are a few snaps – all except the first and last taken on two rides and one dog walk this week! Please see our website or message or phone to book www.pardlestonefarm.co.uk

*****FOUR-NIGHT CANCELLATION AT REDUCED PRICE*****
SOMERSET’S QUANTOCK HILLS – HORSES & DOGS WELCOME

We’ve just had a last-minute, four-night cancellation in our gorgeous Pony Barn @ Pardlestone Farm, from Monday, 21 October. The Pony Barn is our beautifully appointed barn conversion, with underfloor heating, exposed beams, limestone floors, superking Hypnos bed with wool mattress (also splits into singles), en suite wetroom, stone resin mini-bath and lots more. Ideal for two, it can sleep four if the sofabed is used, and there’s a second shower room for the additional guests.
The Pony Barn is perfectly located for exploring Somerset’s Quantock Hills, from their grassy gallops to their deep-cut combes, choclate-box villages and sparkling streams – whether on horse-back, mountain bike or on foot. We’re only a half mile walk from an award-winning, dog-friendly pub and less than two miles from the coast. There’s also lots to do and see in the beautiful West Somerset area, from historic castles and pretty harbours to craggy cliff-tops and England’s longest heritage steam railway. Why not let Somerset surprise you!? Dogs and horses are welcome.
The price for the four nights for up to four people has been reduced to £395. Please call 07721 763993, email enquiries@pardlestonefarm or book through www.pardlestonefarm.co.uk

WE HAVE A WINNER OF OUR PHOTO COMPETITION!

Thank you so much to everyone who submitted a photo for our competition. We’re delighted it attracted so much interest and loved looking at everyone’s dogs! It was very hard to decide on a winner, and we at Pardlestone Farm passed this difficult task on to my sister, both for her complete independence (she doesn’t know any of the entrants!) and because of her role in the wonderful book: Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life, written by James Middleton with Frances Hardy.

Here is what Frances said:
In every one of the photos, the character of the dog shone through. What was evident from each of them was how much these animals are loved. Relaxed, cheeky, endearing, gentle, loyal: every mood was captured. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at them and it was almost impossible to pick a winner, but my favourite was Liz Elmont's beautiful Yogi, captured in a stunning setting in the Quantocks. What gave this photo a special poignancy was the fact that Yogi - although no longer alive - is still vividly present in Liz’s memory. This photo is a very special memorial to her adored dog. Congratulations, Liz.

BOOKINGS ARE OPEN FOR 2025!

We’re delighted to say that we have, at last, opened up bookings at Pardlestone Farm for 2025. Sorry we took so long! They are filling up fast, so please do book early if you’d like to come on particular dates.
We have two self-catering cottages, each of which sleeps up to four, and also offer B&B. Any of our guests are welcome to bring horses, and we have stabling for eight and plenty of turnout. Dogs are welcome in the cottages.
Pardlestone Farm provides immediate access to Somerset’s Quantock Hills, southern England’s least known yet most accessible, unspoilt wilderness. It is also within walking distance of an award-winning, dog-friendly pub, and the spectacular Jurassic coastline at Kilve.
Keen walkers, horse riders and mountain bikers, can walk or ride off-road all day, or call into villages, pubs and cafés along their route. Many come to follow in the footsteps of the romantic poet, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and his friends, William and Dorothy Wordsworth, who were inspired by the beauty of the Quantocks, and the rugged Somerset coast. The Coleridge Way itself passes just a few hundred yards from Pardlestone Farm and there's lots to see and do across the West Somerset area.
Please call 07721 763993, email enquiries@pardlestonefarm or book through www.pardlestonefarm.co.uk

******* And don’t forget, entries are still open for our dog photo competition on our page! Please do get snapping and post your favourite doggy image! *******

SEND US YOUR FAVOURITE DOG PHOTO AND IN RETURN…..

We know how much many – almost all – of our guests love their dogs or other animals (usually horses) in their lives. So, we thought we’d offer a prize of the wonderful book, Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life, by James Middleton. This may sound a bit out-of-character for us at Pardlestone Farm, but we have a personal connection as he wrote it with my sister, Frances, of whom we are naturally very proud! Here she is (on the right) with him at the launch this week. We’re hoping we can push it up the Sunday Times list which means buying it this week! If you love your dogs and care about mental health, we think it’s a ‘must read’. Or it would make a great Christmas present for any doggy friend. It’s already getting rave reviews!
For the best dog photo, (even better if it was taken at Pardlestone Farm!), we’ll send a copy of the book, signed by James. But please tag at least one person you know who loves dogs with your entry. And if you’re the winner and have already bought a copy, we’ll refund you double the price if you prefer!
You can buy the book here:
