Just booked ✈️⬇️

Clients were referred from honeymooners who travelled earlier this year with us. For this special trip these new clients were looking for someone not just to help them plan this trip of a lifetime but also to support them with all those extra activities to make it even more epic!

The honeymoon is for late 2025 which is not ready to book online but that's not a problem for Wanderlust! Staying in 6 hotels, with 4 flights, 2 car hires and a train that crosses international borders, this may have been a nightmare to plan but we work with the best in the business to get them everything on their wish list and so close to what they were hoping to spend.

Following on from our post last week regarding some of the common holiday booking scams, how do you avoid getting scammed?

Well, of course our advice would be to use a professional Personal Travel Consultant like us at Wanderlust, but it does pay to do your research in the first place. Consumer Champion Jane Hawkins suggests you start by:

- checking out the official travel body the website claims to be part of
- is the company really ABTA and ATOL protected? Are they using someone else's?
- read the reviews for the company, when posted, language used
- look at Google maps for location of company
- are there contact details and a phone number? Getting hold of your travel provider should be easy, that's why we use WhatsApp
- is there pressure to make the decision there and then? Always time limited offers?
- is the grammar and spelling poor on the adverts?
- keep communications through the official platform as it's easy to be lured away in order to gain your bank details
- does the company use gmail or hotmail rather than a company domain like [email protected]
- be cautious of using Paypal, especially Friends and Family, to book your holiday

New routes from easyJet!

You can enjoy over 25 new holiday destinations from over 10 different UK airports, including a brand-new destination for easyJet, taking off this winter.

Christmas markets calling? You can now enjoy Prague’s wintery wonders from Birmingham, Belfast, Glasgow and Liverpool; in fact, you can explore this city any time of year with year-round departures.

For those of you up north who are in search of some winter sun, the new Glasgow to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura from Belfast routes takes off end of October, with Liverpool following suit to Fuerteventura in February.

Plus, we have a brand-new kid on the block; the storybook city of Strasbourg can be discovered year-round from Gatwick, departing from November.

As a reputable holiday provider, sometimes Wanderlust has to pick up the pieces when something has gone wrong with your holiday booked online.

The latest findings from a report by Lloyds has revealed that holiday purchase scams have risen by 7% over the past year, with nearly half starting on Facebook.

Popular scams include:
Fake social media accounts - after passengers reach out for help on social media, scammers might reply posing as the airline or tour operator

Clone websites - these can appear for airlines, holidays, villas and more. Although you may think you're on a legitimate site, you may not have spotted the URL has been changed. You may even get fake confirmation emails or booking references

Social media promotions - similar to the clone websites, these can often impersonate airlines or hotels, or they may advertise accommodation that doesn't exist

Fake activities - when travellers end up paying for activities from fraudulent operators and the tour or activity does not exist

Phishing emails - these can appear to come from a legitimate provider and will often ask travellers to confirm their personal and payment details

Service fees for documents - a long-running scam sees copycat websites pop up where a fee is charged to process or renew a document or health insurance card.

Airport parking - some scammers will claim to have a "safe place" for your car but that might not be the case, with some drivers returning to find their cars filthy, damaged or with added mileage. Or maybe the Meet & Greet service booked through a third party doesn't even turn up at all

Counterfeit Atol numbers - while the Atol sign should mean your holiday is protected, scammers can use counterfeit numbers on fake web pages. That goes for using counterfeit ABTA numbers too!

Started in 1992 to celebrate our world's shared ocean and our personal connection to the sea, as well as to raise awareness about the crucial role the ocean plays in our lives and the important ways people can help protect it.

Great news for those of you who fly from Bristol!

Bristol Airport will start using its newly installed security scanners at the end of next week.

The airport has invested £11.5 million in the scanners, which will be in action from 14 June.

Passengers will no longer have to restrict toiletries and liquids to 100ml bottles and will be able to leave laptops, tablets and mobile phones in their hand luggage as they pass through security screening. Bristol Airport said that, due to outstanding regulatory approval, only liquids up to 330ml can be carried.

Fast track security is currently being overhauled and is scheduled to be fully operational by August.

Package holidaymakers to Tunisia will have to pay a tourist tax of up to £30 from 01 November 2024.

Visitors aged 12 and over will pay up to 12 dinars (£3) per night, depending on the official star rating of the property they are staying in.

The charge is per night for a maximum of 10 nights and must be paid at the hotel reception.

The tax starts at 4 TND (£1) per night for a two-star property, 8 TND (£2) per night for a three-star and 12 TND (£3) per night for a four and five-star property.

The tax has already come into effect for people who are not on package holidays and will apply to all holidaymakers from 01 November 2024, irrespective of when they booked the trip.

The tourist tax replaces Tunisia’s hotel tax which applies for the first seven nights of a holiday, at the rate of 2 TND per night for guests in a three-star property and 4 TND for guests staying in a four- or five-star property.

The Tunisian Government said: “The aim of this tax is to require foreign visitors to cover for their fair share when consuming or using subsidised products and services in Tunisia.”

Early pickup at 1am for Gatwick and a smooth run as always from North Somerset Wedding and Event Cars. No queues at security at South Terminal so plenty of time for breakfast at the new Pizza Express and no pizza in sight 🍕. Quick pop into Aspire Lounge and My Lounge as it’s been a while since in this terminal. Decent food offerings in both as well as drinks range. Who knew that cheese sauce for your nachos could be self-serve! Off to gate 13 for our flight with BA ✈️
