Looking forward to Week 3 of the RATLab Tour into Swindon Primary schools. Despite gruelling early starts - an hour's drive, unloading a vanload, to be set-up for shows as early as 9.15am - the tour has been really fun to do. I'm blessed with an amazing crew of fellow theatre makers, and am immensely proud of the show we created. Scan the QR code for more...

We are sad to be saying goodbye to an old friend and trusted collaborator after a long illness. James/Jamie was ‘family’ in many ways; he was founder Terry Lee’s brother-in-law, and became Green Ginger’s touring technician from 1994 until 2007. He was instrumental in the way technologies were woven into the company’s work. His unique mind delighted in the absurd, and this, with a passion for reviving and recycling old equipment, helped to shape our visual and sonic languages, and became no small part in Green Ginger’s theatre-making practices.
Jamie’s contributions to Frank Einstein, Slaphead - Demon Barber, Bambi - The Wilderness Years, and Rust have shaped the ways we still embrace the digital with lo-fi, and try to promote a working culture of repair, recycling and repurposing with all of the assets and tools we employ. We will miss his creative, chaotic and curious mind, his love of music from all corners of the planet, and his essential humanity. Our thoughts are with his family.

The Spice Box, our beloved street show that was originally created for ’Brien, is being re-imagined as a seasonal collaboration with Brunel's SS Great Britain!

Mysterious cargo has been left on the quayside of the SS Great Britain in the countdown to Christmas. What treasures does it hold? What is that scratching sound coming from inside, and why does it smell of cinnamon?

Artists from Puppet Place join forces with their neighbours at the SSGreat Britain to bring you a Christmas Spicebox, performed by Michele O’Brien and Chris Pirie Green Ginger directed by me, with props and puppets by Green Ginger and Opposable Thumb Theatre. At Brunel's SS Great Britain, Great Western Dockyard, Gas Ferry Rd, Bristol BS1 6TY. Show included with general admission, performances throughout the day on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 December 2023. For more info and booking see

(A single wooden crate, encased in green panels and tied with a rope, sits on a wooden pallet on the quayside. Beside it are bits of driftwood and a brown burlap sack. Parts of a boat yard are visible in the background.)
