Want to marvel at the majesty of the elephant? đ
Deep in the Khao Sok National Park, surrounded by towering limestone mountains and virgin jungle, is Elephant Hills: part nature park, part wildlife sanctuary, and part luxury eco-lodge.
This national park is part of a 5,000-square-kilometre swathe of protected forest thought to be one of the oldest on earth â about three times as old as the Amazon â and one of the last surviving habitats in the world for wild elephants.
Elephant Hills is committed to the welfare of these gentle giants â all contact will be made behind a barrier and will be supervised. Youâll be able to meet, touch, feed and interact with them, but only if they come to you (contact must be non-human initiated).
This is one the best wildlife experiences in Southeast Asia. Find out more: https://eu1.hubs.ly/H08KsnW0

Egg in coffee: Seems strange, right? đĽ
Well it's actually one of the most delicious ways to enjoy your morning cup, and it's a Vietnamese delicacy.
You'll get to experience it first hand if you take part in an egg coffee workshop at any number of Hanoi's charming, backstreet cafes.
You'll learn all about how the coffee is grown and prepared, what makes it taste so different, and why on earth egg is involved in the first place.

Imperial Palace Seoul change of guard
Among the most iconic things to do at the imperial palace of Gyeongbokgung in Seoul is to see the change of the royal guard. Twice a day, at 10am and 2pm except Tuesdays: it's a 20-minute procession of armed guards in traditional garb, weapons and instruments.
Make sure to make this part of your trip!

Mekong Delta cycling
"We went on a cycle through villages to a local market where a lady was selling all sorts of veggies; she gave us bananas and spoke to us for a while, and we then hopped on a ferry to Con Oc (Snail Island) where we cycled around even more remote villages and visited fish farms."
Asia specialist Robyn during her recent exploration of the Mekong delta. Whether it's cycling, canoeing or in the comfort of a private car, Vietnam has something to offer to everyone - just ask the experts!

Wat Si Chum Buddha
History buffs will love this one! The buddha statue of Wat Si Chum sanctuary in the ancient capital of Sukhothai was used to raise soldier's morale; the narrow passages of the building allowed priests or royalty to speak through a hole to address the people as if it was coming directly from Buddha.
And the rest of the UNESCO World Heritage historic park in Sukhothai? Staff member Grant shared that "biking around is a fun and easy way to sightsee. Even ruined, you can get a sense of the age and majesty of the first capital of what would some day become modern Thailand."
Sukhothai and its successor Ayutthaya can be visited in our history-rich, 9-day itinerary Kingdoms of Thailand, which you can check here:

Elephant Hills
There are plenty of animal experiences in Asia, but not a lot of them meet international animal welfare standards. Elephant Hills in Thailand is among the few that do, and they go above and beyond to provide a safe and comfortable environment for both elephant and visitors. Highly recommended for anyone going to Kao Sok National Park!

Ready to put Mai Chau in the travel list for Vietnam? Avana retreat is one of our favourite properties to work with in the area. Not only the rooms, grounds and surroundings are beautiful, but they also take their sustainability seriously: from growing their own organic produce to regular conservation work partnered with local organisations.
The grounds themselves have suites, private pool villas and also bungalows built with the guidance of local ethnic minority groups.
How to get there? It's 3 hours away from Hanoi by car, and we can easily add it to one of our tailorable itineraries. For inspiration, you can check our trip ideas for Vietnam here:

Exploring Asia - active adventure
Is it a kayak? Is it a raft? Paddling along waterways is one of the best ways to sightsee and experience Asia; be it wildlife spotting in Cambodia, modest rapids in Laos, karst formations in Vietnam, mangroves in Borneo or kayaking with the family in Thailand. And stand-up paddleboarding is starting to be more widespread too.
We include these activities in a few of our itineraries all throughout Asia - make sure to ask your travel expert!
