Week 6. This week saw a huge push from everybody, After making a big hole last week Andy started to refit planks. Because of the spacing of "Butt ends" , (3 planks and 3 passing frames) we had to remove 1 plank nearly half way down the hull. Fortunately that sees the end of the jig saw and only four planks left to refit. Rik spent hours painting the soul plates for the stern cabin and after refitting we can now stand normally again. Steve Coley had a steady hand repainting our gold stripe after the starboard side had two coats of our new colour. And Fiona carried on preparing the main mast with some lovely shiny oil. Finally with the help of a big hammer our skipper managed to remove the bolts from the dead eyes and the windlass ready to send off for a good service. It is all about replacement now! Nothing left to demo or remove so every little job brings us closer to re-launch. Another huge thank you to every one for your hard work and Oggie Oggie Oggie watch this space.

Week 5 is a tale of two sides, starboard side started the week all spotty, being sanded, filled, red oxided and finishing the week in two undercoats ready for new top coat on Monday. Port side started the week in a similar state but ended after an attack by a jig saw and crow bar with a bit of a hole. Some frames were partly replaced with new oak and others were re-bolted to stregthen them. Replacement boards next week to fill the gaps. Dan painted the stern cabin floor boards and under coated the mast tops. Fiona then gave them a lovely top coat of shiny gloss. Work on the mizzen will start as soon as the timber arrives. So weather permiting, (no I am not going to jinx it) work will carry on a pace. Oggie oggie oggie still more to come.

Here we are at the end of week 4, A fiddle and fettle week. Iron work finshed sanding and looking resplendant in its coating of red oxide ready for glossing. Intake filter skins received a polish and we found some mussels had made a home in the small one. Starboard side had a good sanding, scraping, filling and more sanding before two undercoats. The redundant whisker stay rings, (due to the shorter bow sprit, were removed. And we took possesion of a new set of stainless stays. Next week sees us into our extended period so more of the same thanks to our volunteers. oggie oggie oggie more to come.

Week 3 sees Dan finish 2 full coats of Viniguard on the lower Hull, Rik continues to make the ironwork look like new, (paint next job), Steve (2 rollers Coley) turned his hand to Red oxidising nail heads and stay straps as well as sanding, Skipper Steve ended the week being frustrated by some odd shaped holes, in the rubbing strake, but, persevered and managed to fill one out of two. moving on part of the Hull was filled sanded, undercoated, refilled sanded and a second coat. We have decided to extend our stay in the yard for another four weeks to able us to complete the works fully. 1st visit from the surveyor tomorrow towards our coding inspection. Keep tuned for another Oggie Oggie Oggie more to come.

Week 2, as promised the masts were pulled after some heavy work out knocking the wedges out from below, fingers, thumbs and the expletive box took a hammering as well! To much relief it all went smoothly, even if somewhat stressfull. Laid on the deck a group meeting to see what happens next. Bit of repair needed to the mizzen, Steve got his big saw and chopper to remove all the damage ready to scarf in new timbers. Final de-rigging and removal of Radar and relector before first pass of sanding on the main, smooth sand next then turn and repeat, same treatment to the mizzen after main, then lots and lots and lots oh and lots of lovely oils to make them look tiddly boo. Another huge thank you to all our volunteers for their hard work. Next week! More sanding, more Vinni guard and hull scraping. Oggie oggie oggie more to come

Here ends the first week of works. So far, lower hull, scraped, sanded, puttied,(a good thumb work out mixing 2kg of putty and red oxide powder) under coated with Vinigaurd metalic paint. Rick worked wonders on the propeller, ( But where is it?) Fiona did the rudder and portside, Steve Coley wasnt snoozing but scraped and painted the under keel. The 2 Steves de-rigged the main and mizzen, deck boards lifted in forward cabin to expose key way, cables disconected on main and mizzen. Rain forecasted tomorrow so internal works to complete preperation for masts removal most likely Teusday morning. Another huge thank you to the renovation team. Oggie oggie oggie more next week.

So work carries on a pace thanks to the fantastic efforts of our volunteers. Both sides below the water line, scraped, sanded and ready to have a couple of seams caulked and undercoated for the antifouling. Note the crusted prop that now gleams thanks to Rick. In need of a wooden single block with becket. Davey or similar. New or second hand. Any of my sailing chums have one to sell? Or any ideas on best place to sort one at a sensible price. Thanks in advance. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿคž๐Ÿ‘

Today there is a small celebration going on for Our Daddy and The IRIS in Charlestown for their 100 year anniversary. These boats are a testimony to the boat builders of Looe that they are still sailing a Centenary later.
If you are Charlestown way drop in to have a look at these great old vessels.... We are biased though...
