At the heart of the vibrant market town of Buckingham is Lacemaker’s Cottage, a cosy, oak-beamed, Inside there are three floors linked by winding staircases.

The cottage was renovated and refurbished in December 20 to a high standard, creating a comfortable home-from-home experience. After a day exploring, relax in front of the cosy open log fire, prepare a meal in the fully equipped Shaker style kitchen or take a stroll along the river or to one of the many nearby restaurants, pubs or and takeaways. Lacemakers is a small, Grade II oak beamed cottage w

hich stands in an historic terrace opposite the old cattle markets. Parking in front of the cottage is free but is on a first come first served basis. Long stay, paid for parking is a couple of minutes’ walk in the Cornwall Meadows car park, across the road behind Waitrose, close to the river. The entrance to the cottage is through a heavily beamed, long passageway, shared with our neighbour. The rooms are quirky and there are some tight spaces, sloping floors and low ceilings. There are three bedrooms. The master with king size bed is on the first floor with window to the rear of the cottage overlooking the neighbours’ gardens. The single child’s ‘flamingo’ bedroom is also on the first floor, with a window facing onto the High Street. The second floor is a loft bedroom with sloped ceilings and roof light. Access to the king size bed is from one side. The cottage is furnished to sleep one or two couples or a small family of 4 (each child wanting their own room). The small, very well-equipped modern bathroom with shower over the bath and a beautiful stained-glass window, is on the first floor landing. On the ground floor, the sitting room seats four people and the marble kitchen table also seats four. The cottage is comfortably furnished for up to four people. Quality bedding, linen and towels are provided in the rent.. The three bedrooms – two double and a single (furnished for a child) – offer flexible sleeping arrangements for up to four. The beamed sitting room has a cosy open fire. Outside, there’s a small courtyard to enjoy a morning coffee or an evening a glass of wine. This is the perfect place for couples, friends and small families wanting to enjoy the area, or visiting the University of Buckingham or Stowe School. Buckingham has lots to offer including a good variety of shops with numerous independent traders and traditional cafés, mostly just a short walk from the front door. You can stock up at Waitrose supermarket, just across the road, or at the nearby butcher and greengrocer or the lively market each Tuesday and Saturday. Most Saturday mornings a flea market takes place just outside the cottage. For a couple of weekends in October, the Charter Fair brings rides, games and stalls. A brief stroll from Lacemaker’s Cottage you can explore the banks of the Great Ouse. A tranquil riverside path meanders through parkland and wild spaces. You might even spot an otter. The area is rich in attractions. Nearby National Trust properties include Buckingham’s Chantry Chapel, Stowe Gardens, Claydon House, Waddesdon Manor, Ascot House and Canons Ashby. Buckingham’s Old Gaol museum and visitor centre, just a couple of minutes’ walk, is well worth a visit. Here you can find out how Catherine of Aragon bought lace making to the town. For shopaholics, with designer tastes, a trip to Bicester Village is a must. At this world-renowned outlet centre you can find 160 exclusive brands at discount prices. Silverstone motor circuit, home to the British Grand Prix, MotoGP, Silverstone Classic, Silverstone Experience motorsport museum and year-round track days, is 10 minutes by car – and Addington Equestrian Centre is within ten minutes’ drive. Lacemaker’s Cottage makes an excellent base to explore the university city of Oxford, 40 minutes by car – or you can catch the X5 bus direct to its centre, departing hourly from the doorstep. Nearby Milton Keynes has a wealth of shops and activities including an indoor ski slope, Willen Lake for water sports and high ropes course, a fantastic theatre, Gulliver’s Land and go karting. Also within easy drive are Woburn Safari Park, Blenheim Palace, Bletchley Park, Evenly Wood Gardens and Sulgrave Manor. Minimum stay:- 7 nights
