Pupdate: the vet hospital called to give us the pathology findings. The tumour was more nasty than they thought but there is no evidence of it having metastasized. It disappeared with Harry's leg.

Thank goodness we didn't wait to see how things progressed.

18/08/2024

Pupdate: Harry is returning to his former self. There's been a near normal amount of tail wagging, growl nagging, and demands for belly rubs.

He's off the Pardale which is about 7% codeine. Harry has never liked op**te pain killers. Maybe they made him feel better and bad at the same time 🤷

06/08/2024

We took Harry's dressing off, today. We were expecting full on horror. It isn't. It's healing very healthily, thank you! Also, we allowed him to jump onto his favourite chair because it's low, and because we can see that his wound isn't disintegrating, or mouldering, or oozing awful nastiness...He isn't allowed to jump onto the back of his chair yet; no curtain twitching for another week, Bobo, sorry...

Harry is very happy because the horrid things like pillowcase shirts and weird things that are stuck to him, have gone!

05/08/2024

Harry is a lot happier now that his pillow case shirt has been removed, he REALLY doesn't like things on his body! He's much less worried about moving, now and fairly bombed it up the first third of the bridleway, today. He's learning how to balance to p*e. He hasn't been worrying at his dressing, mainly because he can't actually get to it because of where it is. The dressing is clean and dry, no leakage of anything, and the wound is only marginally warmer than the rest of him, probably because of the dressing, which is coming off tomorrow. Mark and I are steeling ourselves to face the harsh reality of the wound...

Harry is doing well; the secret is keeping him cool. He took himself outside this morning and spent the day lying on the grass in the breeze. He's now in the sitting room where he positioned himself in front of the open window. Mark has been forbidden to light a fire so is now enjoying the benefit of his cosy mohair blanket!

7pm - food and Onsior tablet. Harry is in basket in the kitchen with mum.
8pm - Harry is doing fast breathing.
8.30pm - mum is trawling Google for the why. Pain 😭
9pm - I count his breaths: 70/minute = bad.
9.30om - I can give next Pardale dose and decide to return it to the dose it was before the op.
10.30pm - no improvement. Back to Google.
10.45pm - fetch fan and train it on Harry.
11pm - Harry moves for the first time since 7pm and takes a couple of big, relaxing breaths. This continues.
11.30pm - I count his breaths: 27/minute = good.
12am - I drag spare mattress and duvet down into the sitting room because Mark is taking over care and sleeping downstairs with the boy. He's had a fire all evening because he loves a fire so I open the window. Mark looks horrified! I say "meh, 🤷"
12.30am - Bertie is the happiest dog EVER because he hasn't been able to sleep on our bed upstairs for five years since he slipped a disc; he is occupying half the mattress as only a small animal can!
1am - I check up on the boys and pour me a whisky.
1.10am - I start trying to convince myself that I can go to bed. When the fire is out. And everyone is asleep.
1.30am - just going to go check...

The latest in post-operative attire...
Mark asked for a vest so we could avoid the cone-of-shame because Harry doesn't deal well. They sent him home in a thick, non-breathable body suit thing that was too big for him so was doubled back over his body. He was puffing, panting and dribbling, poor baby.
So, mummy raided the linen cupboard and one old pillow case, a pair of scissors and some safety pins later, he's much cooler and much happier.
My boy 🥰🥰🥰

Our boy is now a three legged boy. He's recovering at the vets but all is well, apparently.

Last year, the bottom went out of my little Doghouse world, and I got a bit depressed and demotivated.

This year, Airbnb has made it much easier to read my reviews. I haven't done that since The Barstewards left, last year. I did just now and it made me a tiny bit damp around the eyeballs. I'm feeling much better, now?

And, I'm having a boast! 😁
