Happy New year from us all at Moor View Chapel!
LAST MINUTE DEAL..(
We’ve just seen the weather forecast and take a look at this…next week is mainly dry and for the first time since last Easter our holiday let is empty and that means this could be the perfect time to have a few days by the woodburner with a bottle of wine after a lovely walk on the moors with the dogs, not forgetting watching the amazing Starling murmeration at Roughtor. Could be some great sunsets too and for the Astronomers, those stars will be shining bright 🌟because Bodmin Moor is a designated ‘dark sky area’
What’s there not to like ? 🤷‍♂️ There’s even a bottle of wine waiting for you 🥂

Autumn has arrived on Bodmin moor! Leaves and ferns change to brown and the Hawthorn trees are full of red berries. This area of moor just 1 mile from Moor View Chapel and close to Stannon stone circle is without its usual sheep inhabitants as the Farmers work with Natural England to rewild the moors. So if you have a dog who doesn’t socialise with sheep this is the perfect spot until March ‘24.
We encourage dog owners to keep their dogs on a lead if they’re unsure of their dogs behaviour around other animals.

In our ever constant drive to improve facilities at Moor View Chapel, we’ve been busy….Douglas digging holes for gate posts (he’s the yellow digger), ponies grazing grass and dogs being a general nuisance, to create… (drum roll 🥁😁)…a “Dog exercise compound!” 👏🎾🐕💥So for your first cuppa and dog walk of the day you only need to walk 30 yards to the secure grassed area that looks across the valley where the ponies and sheep graze. (Stay tuned for Delphi’s contribution to the fencing 🤦‍♂️)

3 miles from Moor View Chapel is the old market town of Camelford and Enfield Park with its short circular tarmac path. It’s the perfect place to take a short stroll if waiting for the Fish and Chips to open or the next batch of Pasty’s to come out of the oven at Cornish Maids (currently only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings until 1.30pm) The quirky shops are also worth a peek and the pub serves a good pint and food is available. Or buy the man in your life a new electric drill from Sleeps tool shop 🔨. Parking is free for the first 2 hours. What’s there not to like? 🤷‍♂️

Did you know it’s possible to walk from Moor View Chapel to Cornwall’s highest peak, Brown W***y at 1,378 feet above sea level? And also en route pay tribute to the 43rd Wessex memorial on top of Roughtor and attempt to find the ‘needle in a haystack’ millstone? As well as view the ancient hut circles or the ‘Butchers shop’ near the top of Roughtor. And what about being able to see both the north and south coast of Cornwall on a clear day?
If you do decide to take the hike don’t forget your pack up… there’s no Costa coffee’s or Nando’s on this route!!

We’ve been quiet with blogging for a little while but there’s a lot coming your way.
Walks!…some local, some a short drive away, some for the casual walker and some for the more ambitious!
This route takes you from Moor View Chapel in a circular clockwise direction taking in quiet country tracks, the moors at the foot of Roughtor and the perimeter of the old disused Clay quarry bringing you back to the chapel on the narrow road from the St Breward direction. Amazing views and you don’t have to be staying at the Chapel to enjoy it… park your car at Roughtor ford, do the walk and grab a cream tea from Rose in the corner of the field on your return to the car (if she’s parked up

If this wasn’t the perfect pose with the moors in the background I don’t know what was…she was probably looking to see if the grass was greener on the other side of the wall but imagine her dismay to see a road !

Lovely to hear that our local cider farm is getting into the Platinum Jubilee celebration mood!

With preparations ramping up for this Fridays Jubilee bash we are delighted to announce that Tom Bray (in association with Haywood Farm Cider) has stepped in to sponsor The St Mabyn World Welly Throwing Championships (held during the jubilee bash). In yesterdays press conference three Golden Welly Trophies were unveiled ahead of Fridays celebrations, one each for the junior, ladies and Men's classes. Tom went on to address the bustling crowd of journalists..."Alright, it's a great honor to be supporting this event on such a special occasion for the Country, I hope the solid Gold trophies with help symbolise Her Majesty's long and shiny reign." Tom went on to say that he'd been giving it Welly since 1978, so it seem appropriate to continue now. The event committee went on to thank Tom and reveal that they are still looking for partners to support the "Splat The Rat" stall after Rentokil withdrew their bid.

This is the South facing gable window at Moor View Chapel. On sunny days during winter it shines these awesome images across the upstairs open plan living area as the sun moves from East to West and probably why it takes me so long to clean on a changeover day as it’s a eye catching time consumer 🤷‍♂️ 😊😊

Our local cider farm has been hard at work harvesting and pressing their apple crop. Haywood Farm Cider, St Maybn is a 25 minute drive from Moor View Chapel and proprietor Tom Bray will cater for your taste, be it dry, medium, sweet, sparkling or still, 2.5 litre to 20 litre, it’s all available in the ‘on-farm sampling shop!’ Many of our guests have already visited Tom who often invites you to take a look around the orchard. Check out their page.

A very popular pub with our guests to Moor View Chapel. A 12 minute drive across the moor, dog friendly in the bar area, ample seating and excellent food, The Old Inn is a must visit during your stay.

Well you’d be forgiven for thinking this video was taken at the beach but actually it’s Crowdy reservoir, just 2 miles from Moor View Chapel and on the edge of Bodmin moor. How lucky we are to be allowed to let our dogs run free in a 5 acre fenced enclosure. Thank you South West Water!
Note: Sometimes moorland ponies and their foals graze this area and it’s the habitat of wild geese and any dog who may chase a any farm animal should not be left off a lead at this popular dog walk!

Means a lot to us to receive these Thank You cards from our lovely guests!

Christmas is fast approaching and if you’re considering spending New Years Eve with a log fire whilst watching your favourite Christmas classics on TV (and of course the odd glass of wine or ‘in-house’ cider) then Moor View Chapel may be right up your street. Currently available from Wednesday 29th December through Sykes Cottages. Credit to previous Christmas guests for some photos. Thank you!

And when the Holiday Let work is all caught up at Moor View Chapel Pete goes off singing with the Fisherman’s Friends. This clip taken at Wavelength drive-in cinema prior to the showing of the film ‘Fisherman’s Friends’ on the big screen in which Pete also has a part. (He pops up everywhere 😉)

Many of our visitors appreciate the odd drop of cider and if they’ve survived Pete’s complimentary apple brew and looking for more we direct them to visit Tom at Haywood Farm cider, St Maybn. Word of warning though, Tom is planning a afterparty for the G7 world leaders and dignitaries on Sunday at 1500hrs and therefore closed to the general public as he explains in this short video. Sorry for any inconvenience!

Visitors to Moor View Chapel could be in for a treat this coming Sunday as the Red Arrows will be flying over Bodmin moor at about 1.22pm on their return to Scampton from RNAS Culdrose where they’ve been entertaining G7 leaders at the summit in St Ives on the Saturday. I might take a walk to Brown W***y, Cornwall’s highest tor. Weather looks good too!

Once again we say safe journey home to our outgoing guests and whilst waiting for the last load of washing to dry on the line at the Chapel, me and Fern go for our usual Friday stroll. Desperately tried to video the Cuckoo but had to settle for the locals in their natural environment. Maybe next time!
