A wonderful sighting of Minke whales from one of the dolphin spottign boats out of New Quay just a short drive up the coast from Aberporth. We often get dolphins in the bay at Aberporth and can sometimes even see them from the house but I highly recommned the boat trips from New Quay as they go further out and the dolphins often like to play around the boats.

The coast path runs right past Golwg y Graig. To the South is beautiful Mwnt with its ancient whitewashed church and to the north is pretty Tresaith, the National Trust owned Penbryn beach, Llangrannog and on to New Quay. Fabulous walking at any time of year but my favourite time is May/June when the wildflowers are at their best along the coast and September/October when there are fewer people but the sea is warm and we often get gorgeous sunny days.
☀️ Make the most of the nice weather this week and explore the Ceredigion Coastal path! 🚶⛰️
😍 It has beautiful scenery, cultural and heritage interest as well as a wealth of wildlife. Look out for marine mammals dolphins and seabirds along your route 🐬🐧

The garden at Golwg y Graig, holiday letting cottage in Aberporth, West Wales is lovely at any time of year but May and June are particularly lovely as these pictures show.
We participate in no mow May (and June) to benefit the bees, butterflies and other insects and the garden is a haven for wildlife. You might find bunnies under the picnic table or watch the garden birds feeding their youngsters in the many birdboxes or vising the feeders.
And if you tire of relaxing in the garden the path to the beach is just opposite the cottage and the resident pod of Cardigan Bay bottle nose dolphins are regular visitors.

i love a spring storm and it's great to be able to see it even without leaving the cosy conservatory at Golwg y Graig but also rewarding to get out and about and take pictures of the waves.
Now we have beautiful sunshine too.

A great day trip while staying at Golwg y Graig. At this time of year the Puffins are arriving, gathering on the water and starting to build their nests in burrows. It really is a most magical place to visit and highly recommended. And when you get back to the confortable cottage you can also watch gannets divng in the bay as well as cormorants and often pods of dolphins passing through too.
The Dale Queen arrived this morning with our first visitors of 2024 - the season has officially begun!
Whilst the Puffins are not a guarantee each day in March and April before they come to land to breed, there were hundreds to greet our visitors in North Haven this morning along with Chough, Razorbills and Kittiwakes.
Have you got your tickets booked yet?

Dolphin encounters
imagine getting up and taking your paddle board out and encountering beautiful wild dolphins like this. It can be a reality when you stay at Golwg y Graig. Room for paddleboards to be stored, fully inflated, either in the garden or in the utility room. Walk down the slipway and a short paddle out to the point where dolphins are often seen. This was around 10am today, July 11th.
A great day for wave jumping or body boarding! Even a few surfers out today. :) Only one summer week left now in June. Or how about an out of season break later in the year. Use 'contact us' button to ask about availability and rates. #bookdirect #aberporthbeach #aberporthbeachcottage
Dolphins Aberporth Bay
The dolphins came in really close to shore yesterday, closer than the closest yellow buoys.
9 seconds in, see the dolphin appear in front of the yellow buoy. When you stay at Golwg y Graig this is just outside your door and dolphins are often seen from the house.
Mackerel chasing baby fish on the reef.
Still some weeks available in October this year. If you are wondering what there is to do in October - we are on the #WalesCoastPath water is usually still warm enough for #openwaterswimming and last year we found these mackerel chasing baby fish on the reef. #alwayssomethingtodo #aberporthbeach #seasidelife
Some spectacular waves rolling into Aberporth on Monday - must have been a big storm out at sea as no wind here. The sea carved a mini Grand Canyon in the sand.
Contact me direct for availability once we reopen and best prices for booking direct.
I can also add you to a reserve list if you would like to be contacted for last minute availability should anyone need to cancel.

How about a fabulous October break at Golwg y Graig? We are right on the coast path and in easy reach of many fabulous stretches of the path. This one is a walk last October heading South from Poppit Sands. Seal pups can often be seen on the beaches (take care, the cliffs are high) and we were lucky enough to spot a turtle dove on our way back! Availability from Oct 2nd through to 23rd. Message me for details (up to 8 guests, from £850 per week)
After storm Ciara, Aberporth - big waves on beautiful beaches
From lovely holiday cottage Golwg y Graig look out to see the big waves still rolling into Aberporth today after storm Ciara. The wave at the end nearly got me - a good thing I had my wellies on!
Something for the wave watchers. Storm Ciara brought big waves to Aberporth beach. Filmed by Golwg y Graig.
Let me introduce our gorgeous holiday home by the sea, Golwg y Graig. Set just steps from Dolwen beach, one of of Aberporth’s two beautiful sandy beaches with fantastic sea views from almost every room. Dolphins are often seen playing in the bay and the large conservatory is a prime viewing spot, as well as having views up the coast to Ynys Lochtyn and on a clear day right across Cardigan Bay to Snowdonia and the Lleyn Peninsula.
Aberporth is a wonderful base for a seaside holiday with two lovely sandy beaches and many more great beaches within easy reach. If you don't want to get the car out thenTresaith is a leisurely stroll away along the Wales coast path while a more strenuous 6 mile walk on the coast path in the other direction brings you to idyllic Mwnt with it’s tiny whitewashed church set on the headland above.
The National Trust beach at Penbryn can be reached from Tresaith at low tide over the sands and at other times along the coast path above. Further up the Ceredigion coast is picturesque Llangrannog and New Quay where dolphin spotting trips run daily from the quayside in season.
A two minute walk brings you to The Ship Inn which serves homemade meals daily and five minutes further on you find the village shops which can provide all you need - a general store, a chemist and post office, launderette, hardware store, hairdresser, gift shop and more. There is also a chip shop, another pub that also serves food and several cafes with sea views
Cardigan town with it’s restored castle and a variety of shops and eating places lies seven miles to the South and crossing the river takes you into Pembrokeshire with the whole of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park to explore and enjoy.
The cottage itself is furnished to a high standard with all you need for a comfortable ‘home-from-home’ holiday. Currently it sleeps 6 in two double bedrooms both with amazing sea views to wake up to and one twin room overlooking the lovely garden. There is also a ground floor room furnished with a comfortable modular sofa/daybed which can be made up as a small double or two singles (on request only). This room also has a small TV and games console so can be used by the younger members of the family while others watch TV in the lounge. There is a toilet and wash basin on the ground floor too. One double bedroom has its own en-suite shower room and the other two rooms share the family bathroom with bath and shower. The kitchen is fully equipped complete with dishwasher and the utility room includes a washer and separate dryer and plenty of room for muddy coats and shoes, or beach equipment. The large lounge has plenty of comfy seating and views out to the sea and goes through to the dining area which looks out over the sunny back garden. Sorry no pets.
As founder members of ‘Plastic Free Aberporth’ we have endeavoured to set up the cottage to minimise single-use plastics as far as possible, whilst still keeping it luxurious and we encourage guests to visit the local businesses which have achieved ‘plastic free’ status from Surfers Against Sewage’. More on that in a later blog.
