Most visitors to Rushbanks might not notice our significant investment in hedgerows, but we've planted an impressive 1,000 meters of them!

We aim to raise awareness about hedgerow conservation, a cornerstone of sustainable land management practices. Hedges are vibrant ecosystems that support biodiversity, protect against erosion, aid in pollination, sequester carbon, and preserve our cultural heritage.

Hedgerows are linear features composed of trees, shrubs, and woody plants, serving as crucial habitats and ecological corridors. They provide shelter, nesting sites, and food sources for a wide range of wildlife, including birds, mammals, insects, and plants. These green boundaries enhance biodiversity by connecting fragmented habitats and promoting species movement and genetic diversity.

Moreover, hedgerows play a vital role in pollination, offering nectar and pollen for bees and other pollinators essential for agricultural productivity and ecosystem health. They also hold cultural and historical significance, reflecting centuries of traditional farming practices and providing a sense of place and heritage.

PRESERVE WATERWAYS: Do not pollute or contaminate. Use eco-friendly soaps and detergents when using our facilities and never throw anything into the water.💦

WHO WE ARE

Welcome to Rushbanks Campsite, the only official campsite on the picturesque banks of the River Stour.🌿🛶⛺️

Since 1958, the Bates family has been welcoming adventurers, nature enthusiasts, and those in search of a riverside haven. Now in the hands of Gareth and James Bates, our tradition of hospitality and the spirit of adventure continues to flourish.

Nestled in the Dedham Vale, an Area of Natural Beauty🍃, the Rushbanks off-grid camping ethos, known as the ‘Rushbanks Way’, harmonises with the AONB’s principles of conservation and sustainable development. By nurturing a connection between people and the natural world, whilst promoting education and recreation, we ensure minimal negative impact on the landscape.🌲

We offer a variety of camping options for tents 🏕, caravans, camper vans or motor homes, or you can stay in one of our four riverside 5-metre Bell Tents. We hire out firepits (with bundles of firewood) and grills, and provide daily canoe and paddleboard hire, or you are welcome to launch your own canoe or kayak 🚣🏾‍♀️at no extra cost.

Our site is off grid, located on a floodplain features mainly temporary facilities which are removed after the camping season. We have a permanent toilet block, an outdoor sink for dishes, a play area with swings, portable hot water showers 💦 (with a brand new off-grid system), fresh tap water, a chemical disposal point for caravans, recycling bins, and general waste bins.

Whether you're enjoying a leisurely hour-and-a-half trip to the pub and back on the river or simply soaking in nature’s ever-changing palette, Rushbanks Campsite offers a unique, family-friendly atmosphere. Starting in 2024, we are excited to welcome dogs, so your furry family members can join in the fun too.🐾

“Myself and a friend visited Rushbanks for a two night stay in May, and we had a fantastic time. The campsite is located in a stunning setting on the banks of the river Stour. There’s a lovely relaxed atmosphere. The facilities are clean and well maintained and include a cold ‘Wim Hof’ cold shower, which I particularly enjoyed. James, the owner, and the warden couldn’t have been more welcoming. We had our own kayak, but James explained how to get the pub on the river (about an hour away). The Anchor pub is very popular, so it’s worth booking a table. There are some great cycle routes nearby and we also visited Flatford Mill, which was lovely. All in all, we had a fantastic stay at Rushbanks. I’d highly recommend it!”
