Update: The road is now back open.
-
‼️ We have recently been informed by BT, that the stretch of road that connects Cragside's entrance to Rothbury will be closed for up to 4 hours today (Monday 9 September) for essential, unavoidable maintenance.

If you are travelling to Cragside for a visit later today, we recommend using the A1, joining the A697 through Longhorsely and Longframlington, and then following signs for Cragside and the B6341 from here.

Diversions are in place. We apologise for the late notice to travellers, we were only made aware of the work this morning.

Ah, summer 😎. Warm, sunny days, shorts and t-shirts, ice cream… Or, perhaps just as likely, drizzle, waterproofs and bored children stuck inside. ☂️

If it’s damp in the great outdoors and you don’t fancy a soggy stroll, try exploring the great indoors instead, at a National Trust place near you.

🕷 Go on a Critter Crawl at Cragside, near Rothbury, and hunt for some over-sized creatures in the house. For under-fives, an Explorer Pack is a great way to discover and experience the objects on display in the house. For older children, follow the Smart Trail to see how the Armstrong family used technology and gadgets for efficient, modern living.

👓 Take shelter from the rain in the cosy castle on Lindisfarne. While you’re there, search the many nooks and crannies for Ned’s spectacles, hidden around the building. And don’t miss artist Liz Gre’s very special light and sound installation, Embodied Cacophonies, in the Upper Gallery.

🎭 Even when the skies are grey, there’s never a dull moment at Seaton Delaval Hall, near Seaton Sluice. Tread the boards on the Baroque-inspired stage in the Kitchen, where you’ll find a chest full of props and scripts to help you create your own performance, or play the Game of Seaton Delaval Hall in the Drawing Room.

💂🏽 Explore two different kinds of world inside at Wallington, Cambo. Lose yourself in a fictional adventure in the reading room or meet the tiny residents of the many grand houses on display. How many toy soldiers can you count?

🦔 How can you be outside and inside at the same time? In the big gazebo at Crook Hall Gardens, Durham – that’s how! Every Tuesday, you’ll find nature-themed crafts there.
