Hengistbury Head Visitor Centre and Local Nature Reserve

We really appreciate the levels of care that the vast majority of our 1 million (approx') visitors a year pay to Hengistbury Head.

We have had a few of these conscientious visitors send us some photos of BBQ's and fires over the Head over the past few weeks. However this mornings is the most alarming example.

Please do not bring BBQ's or start fires at the Head, it risks the survival of threatened wildlife and it is against the byelaws and given the reserves designation as a SSSI - would be considered a serious offence.

Our resources do not provide for round-the-clock patrolling, but we will be carrying out occasional evening patrols as the summer gets going. We would appreciate the Councils out of hours number being called if you see anything like this happening - 01202392322. If a fire is occuring within the dunes, as shown in the photo, then it is also worthy of a call to the Fire Service, as the potential damage caused by this getting out of hand would destroy a rare habitat and the species that depend on it.

More signs and banners are going up around the reserve and in the car park to explain the restrictions better.

**Service Update 23/5/19**
Hengistbury Head Land Train – Interim Land Train service

Following requests from the public for a service, we have acquired a small seafront train and this will run daily from Friday 24th May 2019. Daily train times will be displayed on the noticeboards at each end of the route however, standard times will be 10am to 5pm. Further details can be found on our website www.bournemouth.gov.uk/parks/thingstodo/hengistbury-head-land-train.aspx
Please note due to the ongoing Health and Safety Executive inspection, we are still unable to run the traditional trains at Hengistbury Head.

The Land Rover service for beach hut users is operating as normal, please either email [email protected] or phone 01202 425517 giving at least 48 hours’ notice for a booking.
