Port Skillion is a great little swim spot and the bonus is it’s literally a stone’s throw from the lighthouse!
Have a look at this RNLI video and follow these tips for a safe swim/dip:
🌊 Port Skillion is best one hour either side of high tide, as the stones further down the shore can be slippery making entry/exit more difficult
🥶 if you are not used to cold water remember that the water will likely be around 8 or 9 degrees in the winter rising to a peak of around 16 in the late summer.
👙Even if it’s a hot day, consider wearing a wetsuit and make sure you don’t stay in too long - no more than ten minutes if you’re a novice
🦭There is often a friendly seal who might pop up to say hello - don’t panic, but don’t approach him. Respect his space and keep your distance
🚢 be aware of the wash from the Steam Packet vessels - familiarise yourself with the timetable if possible
🏖️Don’t swim out further than the edge of the cove - stay close to the beach
🛟 Don’t go alone, have someone on shore looking out for you if possible or have a tow float and your phone with you at all times in a waterproof pouch
☎️ if you or anyone else is in difficulty don’t hesitate to call for help. Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
🧤if it’s cold have warm layers and a hot drink ready, or run back up to the cottage to warm up
😎 remember to take one of our beach towels and enjoy your swim!

Thanks to OTD Plumbing & Heating & General Maintenance and Ryan Neild Electrical Services Ltd for installing our new electric boiler and RGW for completing the dig to allow the new three phase supply. Carrying out work like this in our unique location is never easy but the lads rose to the challenge and did a great job, ensuring everything was in working order in time for the arrival of our first guests of the season 😎🧰🪛🛠️🙌
