Check out this free event as part of the wider Downpatrick St Patrick’s day celebrations- free steam trains running from 12:00-16:30, from Market Street to Inch Abbey where there’ll be music, story telling, traditional dancing and much more! ☘️
There's not long to go now before our FREE TRAINS for St Patrick's Day this Friday. Doors open at around 11:30am, and trains are running from 12:00 to around 16:30.
We have some good news for wheelchair users too, instead of the usual small number of spaces at our front door, the event organisers have agreed to set aside the whole first row of the station car park for blue badge holders. If you arrive in good time before the roads close, you can park your car in this area, just talk to the nice people marshalling the road closures and you will be allowed through. A map of this area is shown in the comments of this post.
We're all set up for the craft displays in our Inch Abbey station yard, but we do have a plan B in place in case it's too wet or windy, don't worry. Breadmaking, churning butter, bee hives and honey, traditional music, dance and storytelling, and all this will not cost you a penny thanks to the generous support of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.
Remember that the whole event is free, both at the railway and the main parade and other events in the town. In the event of crowding at the railway, we may need to ask you to come back later when things have quietened down a bit, for safety reasons.
There is no advanced booking or tickets for this event - just turn up at the station on the day.
(We don't think that's actually St Patrick in our photo, it looks a bit like our own St George...)
