Update to the NHBC Technical Guidance - now coming into effect on the 1st of January 2025 🚨 These guidelines regard substrates for tiling bath and shower enclosures, wetrooms and bathroom pods 💡

The diagrams below show the areas that need to be waterproofed for various bathroom set-ups to adhere their standards. All rooms covered within document HB3109 12/23 are required to be tanked with a waterproofing process that conforms to EAD 030352-00-0503 for liquid applied waterproofing. Our Aquaproof system has been tested against the above EAD and has an ETA (European Technical Approval).

The guidance comes into effect for every NHBC registered home whose foundations are begun from the 1st of January 2025 - including the use of offsite manufactured bathroom pods. You can view the NHBC guidlines here: https://bit.ly/NHBCwetroom

Check out this unconventionally shaped wetroom, installed by Mackinnon Joinery in Inverness! It's a great example of the flexibility provided by our made to measure shower tray formers.

Sometimes you'll want a custom shower tray former to change the drainage position, to achieve a specific size or a perfect fit for the joists, however they are also utilised in designs like this to create a completely unique shower space 🚿

We've covered a few different projects recently that implemented our Made to Measure Shower Tray formers in their design!

They provide the perfect solution if you have an irregularly shaped/larger space, require a different drain location or even multiple drains. Whilst more expensive than stock sizes, savings in labour costs can offset this extra cost. A bespoke former can be designed to fit properly on existing joists with the waste outlet positioned to make the pipework easy.

The Barn Hotel in Ruislip combines a traditional exterior - typical of old English cottages from the Tudor era - with a comfortable and modern experience throughout ✨

Their eleven hotel bathrooms were beginning to show signs of their age, the bathrooms had lost their lustre and featured traditional layouts without wetrooms. They wanted to provide their guests with an open, luxurious and stylish shower experience: in line with the comforting experience provided throughout the rest of the hotel.

We provided made to measure formers for each bathroom to fit the unconventionally shaped bathroom spaces, improving ease of installation and the longevity of this renovation.

This beautiful bathroom renovation with a clean, modern look and matching bronze hardware was installed by PM Straw Builders, as part of a wider renovation across this scenic farmhouse property in Whitby.

In this project there was a small space between the floor joints for the client to work around; we provided a waterless shower trap alongside our traditional shower tray former, which was just short enough to fit the space! The provided shower tray former was a bespoke design with a flat area at the back edge, allowing it to slot into the available space with ease.

The customer also requested that we colour-match the grating to the rest of the hardware, unifying the style across the space! We love how the bushed brass stands out within the minimalist design.

This second new wetroom installation from Hampshire Bathroom Design features a similar aesthetic and tile-in linear grating - however, it is also great example of the options available when designing your shower area!

This wetroom implements a full height and half height shower screen to create an enclosure, with a shower seat formed by boxing in a section of the shower in a matching finish. Including a seat in your wetroom can be a great way of improving accessibility or simply to create a more relaxed experience for those extra long showers 🚿💡

Pictured below is our traditional shower kit complete with Primer, compound, tape, 2 pipe sleeves and an outlet sleeves - we also stock a linear variant of this kit with a Butyl Tanking Strip replacing the outlet sleeve. Extra materials and pre-made corners may be ordered in conjunction with shower kits for larger areas ✨

Our Aquaproof Wetroom Waterproofing Compound is a heavy duty, solvent free, silicone compatible, liquid rubber waterproofing compound for waterproofing of wetroom areas prior to the application of ceramic tiles or other coverings.

Applied in 2-3 coats to give a 1mm thick robust and elastic rubber membrane which is has been rigorously tested for use in tanking wetrooms. Once correctly applied - the Aquaproof System provides a robust and guaranteed leak free sealing to your showering area. The Aquaproof tanking system is further utilised in the manufacture of our Shower Tray Formers for layered protection.

Our Aquaproof Tanking System provides the most reliable waterproofing on the market. It has been assessed against EAD and has obtained European Technical Approval alongside CE markings. This makes it the only tanking system from a UK manufacturer that adheres to the new NHBC guidelines regarding substrates for tiling bath and shower enclosures, wet rooms and bathroom pods 💧🚫

This level of approval will soon be necessary for all NHBC projects involving showers and bathroom pods.

Aquaproof Primer is a solvent free, highly absorbable primer for porous surfaces, and an important part of our Aquaproof tanking system 💡 It has been rigorously tested to guarantee it's suitability for priming all absorbent substrates - including plaster, plaster board, wood, screed and concrete.

This special multi-surface wetroom waterproofing primer is used prior to application the our wetroom compound, alongside Aquaproof Tape, pipe and outlet sleeves.

As with all the Aquaproof Products, Aquaproof Primer has been independently tested and is CE Approved. Our wetroom tanking system adheres to the new NHBC Guidelines regarding substrates for tiling bath and shower enclosures, wetrooms and bathroom pods 💧🚫

Our Linear 'tile-in' Shower Tray Formers are a popular choice for wetroom design. The superslim channel provides a U shaped recess for tiling into, blending in with the rest of the space. It can also be reversed for a stainless steel finish.

Great example of an upstairs wetroom - Installed by ReDesign in Leeds! They tiled the direct shower area, installing a wooden floor throughout the remaining bathroom 🙌

We're often asked whether it's possible to construct a wetroom upstairs. A properly installed wetroom will be fully waterproofed - including a slope to falls towards the waste, with any water to seep through the tiling contained by the waterproofing system.

Therefore, a wetroom is very secure compared to conventional shower installations, no matter which floor you wish build on.
