Eilean Donan Castle, home to the Clan MacRae's. Probably the most picturesque Castle in the world. Enjoy...
My Nana used to live here for 20+ years,,,bless her. Loved you Nana and miss you everyday.
More brand new material for you and here we are at a spot I've only just got around to capturing...this, is Croft-an-righ.
Croft-an-Righ ("King's Field") dates back to the seventeenth century and possibly before. Following the cobbled street ahead and round the corner leads you to Croft-an-Righ House, itself dating back to around 1647.
This is located near Holyrood Palace and would have originally been covered in fields and woodlands...not however, for a good long time now. I liked this one and it's one I've been "getting round to" for too long. I've a few other angles to get down here so watch this space for more but for now, here is Croft-an-Righ as it appeared just under twenty four hours ago....
Fantastic picture of the King of Scotland.

Autumn has arrived. Leaves are changing colour and falling. The light around us all is changing. Temperatures are dropping and the seasons are moving on. Always good for a change. Edinburgh Castle from St Cuthberts, awesome sunlight on the ancient stones and lots of leaves.

I crashed my Dad's Truck right outside here many moons ago. Resulted in the road layout changing to what you see today.
Edinburgh Doors Open Weekend - Drumsheugh Baths
Another Edinburgh gem is Drumsheugh Baths in Belford Road. Take a peek behind the doors on a free guided tour of the building on Saturday 23 September. Tours will take place during the day from 10am - 4pm.
A beautiful 70ft Victorian swimming pool, Drumsheugh is the oldest private owned swimming club in Edinburgh and has retained a lot of the original Moorish style features popular in 1882. The club still has rings and trapezes over the water.
The following information can be found on the Drumsheugh Baths Club website on http://www.drumsheughbaths.com/history/
"The Drumsheugh Baths Company commissioned the architect Sir John James Burnet (1857-1938) to design the building on a steeply sloping North facing site in Belford Road, formerly Old Queensferry Road. This stretch of Belford Road in which the baths site was being redeveloped in the closing years of the 19th century as the challenge of the steep site overlooking the Dean Village was taken up and the village itself was tidied up, given a prestigious workmen’s tenement, Well Court, and a new Board school.
The building is designed in the Moorish style and has a deeply shadowed entrance under a low-pitch stone bracketed roof. This style was favoured for public and private baths at that time and can also be seen in Edinburgh in the Turkish Baths in Portobello by Robert Morham 1898. Burnet trained in the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and we can be sure that this exceptional education furnished him well to design imaginatively and informatively in this period of historicist revivals.
The Club was opened in 1882 with William Cameron as its manager. This building was completely destroyed by fire on the night of Saturday 6 February 1892. Burnet’s company, Burnet, Son and Campbell, was responsible for reconstructing the baths on the original site at an estimated cost of £6,000. Shortly after the Baths went into liquidation and the present company Drumsheugh Baths Club Limited, was formed in 1902 to acquire the building and its fittings and fixtures from the liquidator Frances A Bringloe C.A. for £4,500.
The shareholders of the company were mostly residents in the surrounding area and included clerks, merchants, spinsters, advocates, doctors, stockbrokers, soldiers and a mining engineer; very similar to the mix of members today".

Hardly a surprise there,,,
Scotland has been voted the most beautiful country in the world by a respected travel company.
Love to visit here one day.........😁😁😁😁
Built in 1815, the Glenfinnan Monument, with a lone kilted highlander on top, was built as a poignant reminder of the clansmen who gave their lives to the Jacobite cause.

Next up, let's take closer look at the Flying Scotsman as it popped out the final cantilever and started puffing away again. Truly an awesome engine and one I've enjoyed shooting immensely over the last couple of days. I've shot a lot of steam trains over the last couple of years on and off but THIS, is the best! However, I'm biased as I also believe this is the best bridge in the world too...

Does this photo ever get old,,,,,,,,,,,me thinks not...
Since it's such a horrid night, how about some sunshine from last week? An alternative view as the sun was setting last week, looking straight into the heart of one of the most famous streets in Scotland...Princes Street, sunset and life far below the calm vantage point up here on Calton Hill. That's one of life's little pleasures that everyone should enjoy at least once.
Heriots School, Edinburgh....
Nothing beats the evening twilight as the lights around the city start to come on, setting everything off nicely against the inky blue sky. Here's an example, looking straight down into the heart of George Heriots School, the building here since 1628 and still very much in use today.
The building was funded by George Heriot who left 25,000 Scots Pounds (which was equivalent to tens of millions of pounds in today's money) and the original Heriots "hospital" (for the benefit of poor, "faitherless bairns") was built over the coming decades.
It was also occupied by Oliver Cromwell and his forces and eventually morphed into the school we see today. None too shabby looking sandstone and allegedly inspirational to JK Rowling's fictitious Hogwarts School (though no Potter films were made here....they used Alnwick Castle just over the border instead.
