It’s been 3 weeks since Thirty Coffee Shop & Eatery has opened its doors at their new prime location in Filey town, and what an amazing place it is.

Yesterday’s event at the Yorkshire Tourism & Hospitality EXPO at Scarborough Spa

It was great to meet so many people, everyone was so happy to get back into a normal way of living in such a lovely networking event.
Thank you to the organisers of the Expo for making it happen again this year. Thank you to Filey Tourism and Trade Association for inviting me to be at Filey’s stand.

Businesses involved from all aspects of the hospitality and tourism industry from across North Yorkshire were exhibiting their products, services and supplies at the Expo. This year, a "Live Event Kitchen" took place with demonstrations from some of Scarborough’s skilled chefs who shared their helpful tips and ideas.

Have you heard of

𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑀𝑦𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑜𝑢𝑠 𝐷𝑟𝑎𝑔𝑜𝑛 𝑀𝑦𝑡ℎ 𝑎𝑡 𝐹𝑖𝑙𝑒𝑦 𝐵𝑟𝑖𝑔𝑔?

It’s fascinating to read about legends and stories that used to be told back in the Middle Ages. One of those stories relates the sticky Yorkshire cake (known as Parkin) to the dragon that ate too much cake and fell into the sea at Filey Brigg hence the shape of the Brigg!

The old photo is thought to be from the 18th century.

In memory of the Filey Dragon myth which supposedly inhabited the Brigg, a ‘Dragon Ring Outside Classroom’ at country park was created in the shape of a dragon’s mouth with concrete teeth. School children often visit the Dragon Ring, listen to dragon stories and sing songs. Kids of certain age can go far with their imagination.

Would you like to dine sat under Yorkshire’s 200 year old Grape Vine?

The first 2 photos credits to The Glasshouse at Charlottes with its summery look where you’ll experience an extraordinary atmosphere reflecting Filey’s heritage with a modern touch as this beautiful place has been newly renovated. With excellent food and friendly staff, a bar restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner can’t be missed while visiting Filey. You can also book the cocktail lounge for a special event.

We loved our visit last week and enjoyed our food and drinks with the grape vine’s wintery look.

The Glass House at Charlottes is what used to be called The Bronte Vinery, a sister venue to Charlottes of Filey where the English giant novelist Charlotte Bronte (the author of Jane Eyer) had spent her summer holidays as a regular visitor.

Absolutely mesmerising and therapeutic views on the spectacular Yorkshire coast. Over 5km of stunning heritage sea cliffs. The UK’s largest mainland seabird colony.

As the cliffs project into the North sea, Flamborough head attracts many migrant birds. If you love a bit of hiking, Bempton Cliffs is a must place to visit while you’re staying with us. It’s always a bonus if you can spot the Puffins when they visit the cliffs to nest. Have a hot chocolate at the visitors centre and have a wonder around the shop.

🚌 🚆 You can also take the bus or train from Filey to get to Bempton village. Walk for a mile and you’ll be at the reserve.

🚴‍♀️ Cycling is another option you can take to reach Bempton Cliffs reserve from Filey.

🛳 You can go on a cruise from Bridlington where it takes you within inches of the cliffs.

Old photo is thought to date from around 1910 of families day out on the beach in Filey.

Filey is a delightful seaside town in North Yorkshire with a gorgeous 5 miles golden sandy beach. A little quieter than some of the other resorts along the Yorkshire Coast. It is the perfect choice for those who want to unwind by the coast while avoiding all the crowds.

Filey was a small village until the 18th century when visitors from Scarborough arrived seeking the peace and quiet that Filey offered. It might be a quieter option, but there’s still plenty to be offered to its guests.

Hello… Today is book direct day. I would like to let you know what it means, and why you should book direct. We learnt a lot about it from the book direct guy…
Boostly - Mark Simpson… and today we are supporting the launch of his book called
The Book Direct Play Book. It’s a very useful book for any hosts who would like to reduce relying on the on line travel agents.

So here’s what I would like to share with you. You can save lots of money when you book direct, because if you use the on line travel agents such as Booking dot com and Air BnB. You will be paying those OTA’s a huge amount of commission, and booking fees. Not only you save money but the property owners will be saving money as well.

You will get the personal experience; the flexibility and you will be supporting a small business.

So, when you’re planning to book your next holiday, what you need to do is book direct with the owners on their own websites. You will always get a better deal.

If you google the property name that you like to book with, you should be able to find the website of that property, or you can use Facebook or Instagram for your search.

Then, email, call or text the owners directly and you will see the difference.

This bed reflects the heritage of Filey as a premier seaside town in it’s Edwardian hey-day. At that time people would bathe in the sea for therapeutic reasons. Traditionally a bathing hut would be drawn down to the edge of the water and the occupant would be able to step down into the water almost unseen, sparing any blushes!

So today we decided to share with you a bit of history about

𝐹𝑖𝑙𝑒𝑦 𝐶𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑐𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐶𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑐𝑒𝑛𝑡 𝐺𝑎𝑟𝑑𝑒𝑛𝑠.

The Crescent reveals itself, the gentle curve of the tall white-painted buildings gently curve southward, mirroring the bay and setting the social tone of the town for one hundred and eighty years.

The neat green gardens, the sense of summers past and the anticipation of summers to come. This stately street, captured on thousands of postcards, and in countless memories, is an absolute treasure and an icon of the Yorkshire coast.
The Crescent and the Crescent Gardens certainly displays a dignified presence and is one of the British coastlines greatest streets and one with a history to match.
As soon as the first lodging house on The Crescent opened for business, Filey began to attract a high-class of visitor. Partly, this was a reaction to Scarborough’s growing popularity with all classes of Victorian society, but clearly the quiet natural beauty of Filey was the greatest draw.

The legacy of all Filey’s visitors, and the architecture of The Crescent, continues to set Filey’s social tone if you walk around the corner of Belle Vue Street.
