An all round top day out today with Val and Sandra. Osprey and Summer Plumaged Red Knot started the day off whilst a boat trip with Harold on Guide Charters and Cruises the Seacat got us some fantastic views of Bottle nosed Dolphins and Grey Seals but stars of the day were the Gannets, spectacular birds. The finished off nicely with a display of the merry dancers, an Aurora, the first of the season. (pictures corrected to show what the eye see's

It has been a fantastic season watching and photographing my all time favourite bird, the Osprey. From the coast to estuaries to specialised bird hides in the Highlands they have performed at every turn. They are very special birds that have been part of my life since I was 13 years old and used to get dropped off at SWT Loch of the Lowes, whilst Mum, Dad, Aunt Margaret and Uncle Jim went for lunch in nearby Dunkeld. And today in Aviemore where as a child I remember the huge steel Osprey design on the wall on the then swimming pool. Just magical birds. Well that's Osprey playtime over for this season, thanks go to Gordon and Ian at Aviemore ospreys for their fantastic service/spotting this year. Today I was in the "High Hide" giving a completely different perspective and some amazing photo ops of the birds pre-dive. Good marketing as next year I will need three mornings each session to take in all three hides! Looking forward to this venue being on the Birding Ecosse itinerary for 2025..... stay tuned!

A fantastic morning at Aviemore ospreys in lovely weather and good company in the hide. 5 Dives in total giving great photo ops, however one of the highlights for me was hearing the birds calling! Brilliant morning and I get to do it all again tomorrow!

Irresponsible.

Over the past few days our trail cameras have picked up footage of dogs climbing across beaver lodges in the National Park in Rothiemurchus and Kinrara estate.

This is a really important time for beavers and, with the possibility of kits on the way, here’s a reminder of what you can do to help protect these creatures from disturbance:

✅Give beavers space
✅Be quiet and respectful
✅Keep dogs under close control
✅Stick to the paths

Another fantastic trip with Harold onboard the Seacat of Guide Charters and Cruises I cannot recommend this trip highly enough. RSPB Troup Head is an experience not to miss, even non birders will be impressed.

Interesting pictures of Gannets with "Black Eye" compared to Normal Eye. The black eyed birds are survivors of the dreaded HPAI (Bird flu virus) and I will be interested if their chicks show black or normal eyes? Will the adults pass on some sort of immunity?
