"Paradise Cottage is just as the name suggests. A beautiful wonky old cottage in a fantastic setting. You have views over the village rooftops to the estuary from the upstairs windows, and then an even more stunning and peaceful view from the wild meadow garden that runs up the hill behind the cottage. It is a really well equipped and clean holiday let but also clearly a loved family home where you feel very welcome: it has an open fireplace, a piano you can play, a big TV screen for films. Fantastic walk through the woods, a kayak trip out onto the water, a curry night at the village pub, great places to explore round about. It was very hard to leave. Thank you to Chris and Paradise family for everything. Polly, Mike and dogs"

"Paradise Cottage is such a gem! The cottage is so cosy and charming, we fell in love with it as soon as we stepped in the door and spent a lot of our time there as it was just so relaxing and cute. The house is brimming with creativity; many interesting books and things to look at including a lot of owls!"

"A really special place, very glad to have made this find. Inside there are 3 comfortable bedrooms, a living room (which without breaking the mood hosts a flatscreen TV with Netflix/Prime/iPlayer), a well-equipped kitchen and a dining space perfect for a social night in. All of which is great, but the garden and terraces help to make it truly special. There's a suntrap patio and, higher up, an open deck level with the cottage roof that overlooks the estuary. The views are wonderful, and if the weather is right it's perfect for a morning coffee, an afternoon read, or an evening barbeque."

"We found the cottage warm, clean and comfortable. I've stayed in Fowey before, and much preferred being in Golant, near river and woodland walks, and having a garden and parking space. And if you need an urban fix or wider choice of restaurants/cafes, Fowey is only about fifteen minutes away. I would recommend kayaking up to Lerryn (we saw kingfishers and a crocodile!), and visiting the pub there (perhaps also driving to the pub for an evening).

"Lovely quirky cottage that had everything you need for a relaxing holiday. We took our dog, who loved the massive garden area. We walked to Fowey on the Saints trail (6 mile round trip) which took us an hour each way (outward walk is pretty steep in one place so good for leg muscles!!). We would happily return to Golant and stay at Paradise cottage." Sheri

"This is my second visit to Paradise Cottage, and that’s a first for me. I Although I raved about my previous stay, Patrick has made it even better since I last visited with a beautiful new kitchen, new bathroom and fabulous decking which affords you the most sublime view of the estuary, the boats and the wooded hills. It is heavenly, just the sounds of birds calling and total peace. Golant is on the Saints Way so great walks are literally outside your door. You can hire kayaks easily or go on guided tours, river swim and there is a friendly village pub right by the water."

"Great views from the garden above the house - a lovely place to sit for a barbecue or a drink. Stunning estuary with some lovely local walks and good beaches and places to visit a short car journey away. We visited Lostwithiel, Lanhydrock, Par Sands and Fowey. " Victoria

"We really liked the outside areas, especially the new decking area. It’s a perfect spot to enjoy a glass of wine or have a bbq and take in the view of the river. We were staying as a part holiday, part working week, so the WiFi speed was really important. It did not disappoint and we were able to work effectively, even outside!" Rebecca

"Stop right now, and just book this place! The cottage is everything delightful. It's steeped in charm, comfort, and character. The bathroom has been recently reno'd and it's gleaming. The daffodils bobbing just outside the bathroom window were such a treat. The central heating was very easily controlled with the Nest device, and it was such a relief to be warm very quickly. The kitchen is well appointed and had everything you could think of to prepare food. There's a generous sized parking space right next to the cottage. In the morning it was lovely to wake up and look out of the bedroom window to spy the river, and stroll down to the Fisherman's Arms for a pint in the evenings. This cottage has all the little practical touches like an umbrella by the door and reading lamps by the beds. The place is immaculately clean with lovely white crisp sheets and towels. The upper patio was perfect for an evening cocktail, as it has a lovely river view. So glad we found this gem."

Thank you Ann Marie

Paradise in mid-Cornwall

Paradise Cottage is where I grew up.

It’s a 370 year old (ish) cottage with curvy walls – stone on the ground floor and cob on the first floor. For those of you who don’t know, cob is basically earth or mud – although when we had to rebuild part of the front wall when I was a child, there were also enormous rocks, sheep’s skulls and straw in the mix too.

My parents, Gwenda and Basil Towell, bought it in 1964 at auction, having moved down in ‘63 with their friends Dorothy and Stan Rickwood. The two couples had got to know each other, living on opposite sides of Melody Road in Wandsworth in South West London. Gwenda and Dorothy had worked in motor racing together. While they waited to buy Paradise Cottage – and for Dorothy and Stan, Orchard Cottage, also in the village – they had to live squeezed in together with two houseful’s furniture into a small terrace house opposite where now is Castle Dore rowing club in the village.
