Ricky spent a wonderful day with Richa, Vivek and Reyva from San Francisco, USA on Friday. Met at The Royal Mile, Edinburgh, the family stopped off at The Kelpies, Falkirk then on to Kilmahog, Callander to feed the Highland Cows. Onwards to the spectacular Glencoe, for a photo opportunity of the 3 Sisters mountain range. Travelling to visit Inverlochy Castle at the Southern end of The Great Glen then visiting The Nevis distillery for a tour and tasting. The tour continued to the Glenfinnan Viaduct, standing on the rock where Bonnie Prince Charlie started the Jacobite Uprising in 1745. The family were amazed as they watched the Jacobite Steam train travelling over the Glenfinnan Viaduct on its way to Fort William.

Castle Lachlan, another wee hidden gem! Ancient seat of Clan McLachlan, built in 1400’s overlooking Loch Fyne. 17th Clan Chief Lachlan McLachlan fought on the side of Bonnie Prince Charlie, the chief was killed at Battle of Culloden in 1746. After falling at Culloden, legend says his riderless horse returned to the castle, swimming across Loch Fyne to return home. The horse refused thereafter to leave Castle Lachlan until it’s death. Some say the ‘Ghost Horse’ can be heard in the vaults and seen in the moonlight to this day.

Dunadd Fortress is the ancient Seat of Kings, dating from the Iron Age and early medieval period. It is believed to be the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Dalriada, appearing in the Argyll area in early centuries AD, perhaps after the Romans abandoned Scotland. Kings from Ireland travelled here in the 6th century AD, known as the Scotti, eventually giving their name to Scotland. This non touristy place is a must to see! This area also has ancient standing stones.
