Yesterday, cold winds from the north brought the first snow to our mountains. Here's the little ski resort of Campo di Giove under the Majella mountain.

Today we woke to the first snows on the peaks of Roccaraso. Winter's on the way...........

Incredible that there's still between 4 and 8 metres of snow to clear from Campo Imperatore before the Giro d'Italia comes through on the 12th May. The stage goes right past Roccaraso on its way to the Gran Sasso. What a strange winter it's been!

❗IL RITO DI CAMPO IMPERATORE❗

Come ogni anno, in questo periodo, si ripete il rito della pulizia della strada di Campo Imperatore. Quest'anno l'innevamento primaverile è stato particolarmente significativo, tanto che in alcuni punti l'accumulo eolico ha toccato gli 8 metri (fonte: Neve Appennino). Quest'anno, inoltre, l'arrivo del Giro d'Italia, il 12 maggio, mostrerà a tutta Italia, in diretta TV, questi muri di neve, diventati nel tempo un simbolo della nostra montagna.
La foto è stata scattata ieri dall'amico Emanuele Valeri, che ci mostra la turbina in piena attività, tra due ali di neve.
