Today we said goodbye to Haslemere Travel founder and former owner Andrew Brownrigg.

A true gentleman and passionate believer in independent travel. Never happier than when travelling the world, playing golf or spending time with wife Di and daughters Lucy & Amy.

Andrew will be missed immensely but the pictures and stories from his travel remind us of wonderful memories , which we hold dear🤍

At Haslemere Travel, we take the ethical treatment of all animals incredibly seriously, especially when travelling overseas. We will never recommend or partake in any animal related experience unless we are certain that the animals welfare is the utmost priority!

In , it is still common place to visit ‘sanctuaries’ where you can ride on elephants and have human interactions with them including touching and bathing. This is not ethical or humane. are not meant to live in this way, even if you are told that they have been rescued from a far worse situation. They are still being exploited.

Our decision to visit the came after much research into the ‘sanctuaries’ in . The first of its kind in to create an environment as close to the elephants natural habitat as possible and with no riding, touching or washing.

Our guide BiBi, had worked at the park for over 15 years and knew all the elephants by name, including where they had come from, their ages, who they now interact with and what they like. Each elephant has its own Mahout, in charge of their welfare and daily care. The bond between elephant and Mahout was incredible.

We were able to get close to a couple of elephants but absolutely no touching by the visitors. What an incredible experience to see the rehabilitation of such kind souls who man had let down.
