‘I want to shock myself awake: after central heating and screens, to feel cold, with skin submerged in wild waters, is attractively physical. I want to blast away the frustrations of being stuck on this island and no longer have the outlet of getting drunk. The chilly immersion is addictive, verging on unpleasant at the time, but I find myself craving it, agreeing to go again, planning my next swim, eying up lochs, bays or reservoirs. I want to swim in bomb craters.’

Coverack earlier this week. A little bit quieter but always a lovely place to explore.

It’s looking like a nice day today - breeze, calm seas and blue sky! As we move into the last part of our season, the last hire time for paddle craft will be at 4pm. Windsurfing sessions are still running in the morning and afternoon. Hope to see you on the water!

Tucked away in the lee of the Lizard Peninsula, Coverack is sheltered from most of Cornwalls prevailing westerlies. Its unique geology has created curious rock formations, and a fine stretch of steely grey sand.

The town has and impressively long history of smuggling, and some of the traditional fisherman's cottages still house secret hiding places.

A swim at Coverack blends unique natural surroundings, with glimpses in Cornwall's sinister past. Find out more about this location, and 50 others, in our book, 'A Guide to Wild Swimming in Cornwall'.

*Enjoying the National Trail as restrictions lift*

As of yesterday, almost all restrictions in England have been lifted. There are now no limits on how many people can meet up; social distancing (except in some places) is no longer mandatory; face coverings are no longer required by law (except in crowded places); and pubs and restaurants are no longer required to provide only table service.

*However, please note* there are many businesses in the South West who are taking a slower approach to easing the restrictions they have in place, for the safety of their staff and customers - so please respect the local practices in place when visiting the South West Coast Path and surrounding areas. Whilst the country is taking Step 4 on the Roadmap, we ask that you still ‘tread carefully’.
