Phew! The new fire regs for self-catering businesses come into force on 1st October 2023. These apply to anyone offering paid for overnight accommodation, even if it is only one night in the year. All done here. 😀

So today was release day for little Snuffles. After 3 weeks being looked after at Hedgehog Rescue, she was at the release weight of 500g. We placed her box near to where we found her, then opened the box at dusk. It took her a little while to realise she was free, but was soon off exploring. We set up a little feed station for her but I expect she'll soon be finding her own food.

It's been a great few weeks for wildlife spotting at and we've had some keen wildlife spotting guests! Roe deer have been regular visitors to our bottom field, and our hedgehog population is thriving. We think little 4 week old Snuffles got separated from her Mum. We took her to Prickles and Paws Hedgehog Rescue where she will be cared for until she is ready to be released back at Tregathenan House and Cottages

FREEDOM DAY! With Defra bird flu restrictions lifted, our geese, ducks and chickens are enjoying outdoor life again after 5 months under netting. Sadly during this time we lost Josephine (not to bird flu) and Napoleon is pining terribly. So if anyone knows of a lady goose looking for a mate, or if there's a Tinder for geese out there - gander looking for love, companionship, GSH, etc.....❤ Poor Napoleon.

At all our animals are family and so when we lose one of our family we are left with sadness in our hearts. We recently lost dear Paco - at 19 he was one of the oldest alpacas in our care. He came to us on short term foster many years ago and stayed! Paco wasn't always the easiest alpaca to handle, even though he was quite small but we came to an arrangement based on mutual respect; he started to enjoy attention and, as often happens with 'rebels', we became very fond of him. His boy band haircut always used to make me smile. Happy days Paco. Sleep well. ❤

20 years ago we arrived at Tregathenan with our 'way too big' furniture van and started our self-catering business Tregathenan Country Cottages (now Tregathenan House & Cottages). We've met some wonderful people over the years; given homes to many 2 and 4 legged waifs and strays; had loads of laughter and a few tears. And we still love our little piece of Cornish heaven every bit as much as the day we arrived. Where has the time gone?! A few piccies from the gardens at today.
