Lovely to see a small flock of waxwings in nearby Leek this week, feeding on rowan berries near the town centre. These colourful birds are winter visitors from their breeding grounds in Scandinavia and Russia. If berries are plentiful in continental Europe, then very few of these spectacular birds will make the journey over. They’re such a distinctive bird, with their impressive coiffure, muted pink body and contrasting black and yellow wing and tail tips.

😁 A view from the window on a very rainy day….I should be cleaning it ready for my guests but it’s so relaxing sitting on the sofa, listening to the rain and watching the rain drops on the window……wake me when the sunshine💨💦💨💦

Well it’s a jolly good thing I’m not frightened of spiders!! It’s spider kingdom in The Wolery at the moment. 🕷️ 🕷️ everywhere and even after cleaning they are scurrying back!!! 🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️🕷️

Sadly I have to report to my guests that The Marquis of Granby, one of the local pubs in the village, has closed due to the sad loss of Richard, the Landlord and Chef. Many of of you I know thoroughly enjoyed the lovely stroll down of an evening and dining at The Marquis during your stay and I know that you too will be sad at the loss of a great pub.

There are of course 2 other pubs in the village, all within walking distance, The Sea Lion, this pub does not offer food but is does have sports coverage and The Red Lion, which does offer food. There is also The Fox and Goose in Foxt which has recently opened with a new Landlord and Landlady.

This year, instead of sending Christmas cards we have sent a donation to Dogs First rescue home. Collin, our rescue lurcher, came to us from there a couple of years ago, we are very thankful to have him.
