It's the last day of Volunteer Week, and we want to give a HUGE thank you to all our amazing volunteers! 🌟

To those at the shop front, serving customers and stocking shelves –thank you, you’re the face of our community!
To our board members who make big decisions, find funds, and maintain the building –thank you, your leadership is invaluable!
To the quiet heroes behind the scenes, like Carol checking produce dates, David on Saturday papers, and Ken cutting the grass –thank you, your dedication doesn’t go unnoticed.
It takes a strong team to make our shop the success it is. Thank you all! 💖

😄😄🥳It is volunteer week and we would like to introduce you to some of our wonderful, amazing, dynamic volunteers, without whom, the shop would not thrive as it does: 🧡
Today we have Helen, one of our longest serving volunteers since the community took on the shop:
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO WORK AT THE COMMUNITY SHOP?
I have always enjoyed volunteering and meeting with people. Progressing from the steering group to the board gave me an ideal opportunity to join the volunteers. 😊

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WORKING HERE?
Over 5 years. ⏳

WHAT ARE YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILTIES AS A VOLUNTEER?
Dedication, creating a happy environment, listening to customers' requests, and passing information onto management. 🎯

WHAT SKILLS HAVE YOU FOUND MOST VALUABLE IN YOUR ROLE?
Being able to learn the up-to-date till but mainly cleaning. 😉🧹

HAVE YOU NOTICED ANY WAYS WHICH THE SHOP HAS POSITIVELY IMPACTED THE COMMUNITY?
Of great benefit to all members of the community. The feedback is so positive from all ages, especially from those who do not drive. School children come regularly in groups and benefit from the experience through the curriculum. 🌟

CAN YOU SHARE ANY MEMORABLE EXPERIENCES OR STORIES FROM YOUR TIME VOLUNTEERING?
One day, a gentleman called in and greeted me with, “Hello Helen, you haven’t changed, remember me?” No, I didn’t. He had been in my playschool at three years old and was now in his 40s, flourishing a beard and no hair. 😄

WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST REWARDING ABOUT YOUR VOLUNTEER WORK?
Customers checking out past relatives who have lived in the area. Having lived in the area for 70 odd years, we can usually find a connection, and this is so rewarding. ❤️

NAME YOUR FAVOURITE PRODUCT THAT THE SHOP SELLS?
Soft Seriously spreading cheese and also Buchanans soft mints, but that can change as there are so many new products to try. 🧀🍬
