Our Story

1 Long Houses is a classic Lake District long-house farmhouse dating from the 1700’s. We poured a lot of effort and love into its restoration and extension over 2016 and 2017. You can follow the ‘grand design’ on our Facebook timeline.

We want to live here one day but in the meantime are welcoming holiday guests to this family home in the beautiful secluded Kentmere valley. There are numerous walks, runs and bike rides right from the door. Inside there’s lots of living space, and the plate glass dining room makes it feel as though you are sitting on the fell side.

The thriving village of Staveley is a short drive (or 70 minute walk!) away, where there are shops, the Hawkshead brewery, and the rather good Eagle & Child pub. The Lake District towns of Kendal, Windermere and Ambleside are close at hand.
