Groundhouse Sheppey is the first Earthship style dwelling to pass building regulations in the uk. It was built from 800 chalk rammed car tyres and with as many locals and ecologically sound choices as possible. If you want to visit our magical site, we have Hobbit style glamping pods with hot tubs, and a mobile home that you can stay in. During the warmer months you can use our private family pool

. And we are now working on a wood fired sauna and a place that you can watch your favourite movies in style. Although both pods have Netflix, Disney plus and all imaginable channels for you to access in your private pod, the new state of the art private cinema/gaming room is a very new spacial addition. If you are in to your Nature as are we, you can purchase our Honey made by our bees on site, and enjoy an abundance of wildlife because we are in between 2 national nature/bird reserves. Any ideas?? Asian greens, I sowed in March: so spicy more so than rocket, grew really well but I’ve decided to harvest and pull them out because they are not my favourite. I’ve made some into herb salt, thinking to dry the rest and powder them. Anyone cooked with these before?

Worked quite hard on the compost- necessary because with so much needed it would be massively expensive. Layered wood chip with grass, veg scraps from kitchen, coffee grounds but loads of wood chip between each layer of green waste, watered in between each layer, it heated up nice and after 2 weeks turning twice it’s almost ready to use. Can’t believe the size of my rhubarb already!!

Those seedlings that you planted in Jan - now, if you have them in modules or seed trays it’s time to give them more space. Make sure you wash your pots as you don’t want slugs, snails or desease getting near your baby plants. Frost is not quite over yet but all seedlings need to go out during the day to make them strong! 💪

After almost 4 weeks of not sowing , I upped my game and have planted a lot of seeds. Some out of date some new ones so let’s see what happens.
I like to bring it all indoors so the soil is warm and daylight isn’t a limitation. Also it makes me label and store the seeds better.
Top tip always label as you WILL get muddled otherwise!

Thanks for all your hard work pruning around the groundhouse, I really appreciate it. Anyone else wants to volunteer to help with the pruning, weeding digging and planting please let me know ! Hopefully the cockerel will have feathers again soon😄

Getting out there and living the groundhouse dream! Picked loads of purple sprouting, planted the onions, heavily pruned the apple tree and used the branches to protect the onions. Went to steal coffee grinds for the compost heap that was lacking nitrogen (I hope ) from Starbucks and ended up having a surprise chat and coffee with one of the groundhouse babies and my niece! It’s good to get outside and see things growing, wild garlic has finally taken off in the permaculture patch, the chickens just like to say hi! Just to add in made a great dinner with the purple sprouting broccoli and the fresh eggs.

Chickens are all settled in - they are even all putting themselves up to bed nicely. Hopefully the new automatic door is working, because getting up at six to let them out ( shutting them in is protection from foxes) isn’t the best fun!

Been so busy with my head down making this place magic for its visitors- sometimes I see moments that make me smile , I don’t mean the pecking order I don’t like that, but I like to see the hens bathing xx
