Last day in Lefkada & it seems we saved the best for last! beach, on the west coast of the island & just an hour from the hotel, is a real beaut & famed for its tall white cliffs & clear blue sea 😍 It’s breathtakingly gorgeous & just one of many outstanding beaches along the same stretch of coast.

We’ve really enjoyed having the flexibility of a hire car during this week & found the island very easy to navigate, with many main roads hugging the coastline offering spectacular views.

A lovely day out exploring the local area! is ideally located to reach many nearby beaches including with its wide array of watersports, beach bars & lively town centre & marina with a host of welcoming tavernas, pretty boutiques & plenty of yachts & motor cruises to ogle at. Rounding off my trip to Japan a few weeks ago! 🇯🇵 What a beautiful country with such a unique blend of ancient & modern. It’s a remarkably diverse country just waiting to be discovered, a place where you can disconnect from high-tech cities🌆with days spent in serene nature🌿discovering ancient rituals, shrines ⛩️and hot springs🔥which I had the opportunity to experience when I visited the southern city of Beppu!

🇯🇵Beppu has the rightful reputation as a world leader for onsen bathing. The rejuvenating properties of Beppu’s hot springs have been known for centuries, offering a sanctuary for the body & soul.

🇯🇵Yakushima is a small island off the south coast & is home to deserted beaches, abundance of wildlife including monkeys & deer as well as its ancient cedar forests.

Before coming to Japan, I had hoped to experience an authentic performance and combined with cruising through the city on a river boat whilst dining, the experience did not disappoint! The whole evening was an absolute delight & it has become a real highlight of the trip so far 🎭

At Playa Cativo, the team are passionate about sustainability & locally sourced food. The farm-to-table dining experience showcases the freshest ingredients from their very own farm & the surrounding ocean. We can vouch for the delicious tastes & flavours & the seafood dishes were extremely good - only complemented by the organic vegetables & herbs.

There is also great passion about protecting the planet & are committed to a number of sustainable practises:

Guests have use of the complimentary paddleboards, kayaks & snorkel gear here at Playa Cativo, so we took the kayaks out across the emerald-green bay to jump off the dock. That was our morning activity done, then it was back to the pool to chill. The lodge promotes an atmosphere of ‘restore & explore’ & it’s a wonderful place to recharge after a super busy trip!

Onto the final stop on our 2 week Costa Rica holiday-of-a-lifetime! Visiting 4 different locations has made it feel like we’ve been away for a month and we are privileged to now spend our last 3 nights at a beautiful eco lodge in Golfito called Playa Cativo 🌟

Designed as a place to restore & explore, this sustainable, luxury, lodge is set in 1000 acres of primary rainforest with one of the most biologically diverse ecosystems - creating an environment for 750 species of trees 🌴140 species of mammals🐵 390 species of birds🦜117 species of reptiles🦎& almost 10,000 species of insects🦋- not to mention offering a rich feeding ground for humpbacks & both the bottlenose dolphin & Pacific spotted dolphin 🐬

It was 3 hour drive from Manuel Antonio & then a 30 minute boat journey to the lodge, with the bonus of a nice cold beer! We were met by the brilliant team & shown straight to our 2 bed ocean-view lodge with shared pool! Kids are very impressed 🙌

We’re very happy with our final location & look forward to exploring more tomorrow!

Parador Nature Resort is the perfect place for nature & wildlife lovers. One morning at breakfast were graced with a fly-past of 6 magnificent macaws, flying in pairs, straight across the front of the hotel - we didn’t know we were bird lovers, but that’s the effect Costa Rica has on you! 🦜 There are 2 resident sloths 🦥 living in the mango trees by the pool & the Capuchin Monkeys swing by daily🙊 Guests can follow the nature trails to get close ups of all the wildlife

Next stop the Pacific Ocean! And a few days learning to surf whilst staying 4 nights at Parador Nature Resort which is also very close to Manuel Antonio National Park.

The surf lessons were so much fun that we booked again for the following day - the brilliant team made sure we all caught some waves - some of us were better than others!

We took a 2 hour guided walk in Manuel Antonio National Park & Lourdes was so knowledgeable, stopping to show us lizards, butterfly’s, hummingbirds, monkey’s (first time seeing Squirrel & Capuchin monkey’s), a huge Toucan & more sloths. We’d highly recommend going with a guide as they have the telescopic lens, meaning you can see everything close up & you can take photos through the lens too🦜

The Parador Hotel offered lovely size rooms with ocean views, a great pool, a resident sloth & excellent dining. It’s a great base to explore the area.

Onwards to Arenal for a glimpse of the magnificent volcano & a hit of adrenaline with excursions including Ziplining, White Water Rafting, Quad Biking, & Canyoning - all of which were terrifying & exhilarating in equal measure! We have not laughed/screamed so much in ages & each of these activities were perfect for us as a family with kids aged 14 & 11.

We stayed at & our room had the perfect view of the volcano when it peaked out from behind the clouds.

Breakfast served up volcano views plus monkeys, exotic birds & enormous iguana’s perched on tall tree branches as they caught some morning rays. We spent 4 nights here & it was an ideal amount of time.

Next stop - the rainforest and WOW what a brilliant few days in Tortuguero National Park! We’ve seen sunshine & rain plus so many spider monkeys, sloths, toucans, hawks, jacana’s, iguanas, caymen and we even experienced a night time turtle nesting walk - watching a huge Green Turtle lay her eggs before heading back into the Caribbean Sea (the area is heavily protected so no photography allowed) We’ve been blown away by this entire experience & would highly recommend it! 🇨🇷

Last Monday - 2nd June - we were so pleased to once again be awarded as one of the best in the business when we won a place on a power-list of the top agencies in the UK and Ireland by industry bible Travel Trade Gazette.
