The Aotearoa bikepacking route is coming to a close now as I board the historic TSS Earnslow to Walters peak from Queenstown. From there it is a 100km gravel ride to Mossburn before the final day tomorrow. After nearly 3000km of amazing cycling and 105,000ft of ascent the route will be complete.

Possibly one of most challenging solo cycling days I have ever had. The first stage to the bridge to nowhere traversed technical ground more suitable for a mountain bike. Following this first ride it's was then a jet boat as there are no cycling options before a final 75km to Whanganui. Was a 14 hours day in total. 🇳🇿

Cycling 3000km from the top to the tip of New Zealand involves cycling several famous routes and sections of routes. After careful planning I divided the timber trail into two days as it is a serious challenge with a loaded bike. Cycling repurposed logging tramways of Waikato's working forrest takes in native broad-leaf podocarp forrest. Starting from Mangokino it is a couple of hours before I arrived at the start and then is 40km of mountain biking through forrest.

oday’s crossing of the Kaipara Harbour has been a logistical headache since I first started planning my Tour Aotearoa adventure. Rather than veering east around a vast coastal inlet of watery fingers stretching up the estuaries and rivers, I wanted to ride down the quieter, more picturesque Pouto Peninsula. If all went to plan, I’d be in Auckland by 8pm tonight.

Cycling 3000km and 105,000ft of ascent mean seeing many different sites. A slight detour from the route today to the kouto boulders was definitely worth it. Their geological origins are 70 million years old and borne of favourable conditions for minerals to create formations within softer sandstone, later exposed by erosion. The wild variations in measurements have the biggest one here measured at between three and 14 metres across and there has been a debate raised as to whether these are the biggest visible spherical concretions in the world. The word concretion comes from Latin and means “grown together” 🇳🇿

Tour Aotearoa bikepacking starts with the beach known as 90 miles beach. It is in fact 50 miles down the beach and has to be done in the available window. I set off at 0730 which is three hours before low tide so I can cycle down the hard sand. The conditions were perfect meaning is was as cycling down a beach can be.

Cycling across New Zealand. Tour Aotearoa is New Zealand’s longest bikepacking event. Stretching 3,000km from Cape Reinga to Bluff it follows a combination of cycle trails, tracks, paths and lanes connected by the most enjoyable country roads available. I am cycling it to raise money for Claire's house and start on 5th Jan. Check out the link in the blog. Please share this and help me raise money for Claire's house.

When my gardener asked me what charity I was raising money for when cycling the 3000km bikepacking route across New Zealand 🇳🇿 she told me I should help Claire's house raise money to help families. I couldn't refuse and she has already raised £600. To try and gain some interest my friend bought me a morph suit and insisted I wear it. In life we often take things very seriously and forget others have very real problems. I decided to do my best and so whilst training I wore this for 20km if the 200km Welsh bikepacking route. Help me please raise money.

A 200km off-road adventure across the stunning landscapes of North Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿. From enticing lost lanes meandering through valleys to forest tracks or moorland trails climbing up to misty mountains, the fantastic landscapes of North Wales are just begging to be explored by bike. Cycling UK has worked with Natural Resources Wales to create the Traws Eryri (Trans Snowdonia) trail, an off-road adventure route which links up some of the best riding in Eryri. Day one 110 and 7,200ft of climbing. Very wet and buggy conditions resulted in a 12 hour day. Train hard ride easy in New Zealand. Follow me ride across New Zealand to raise money for Claire's house hospice. The go bike nine for providing amazing hope wheels at trade price.

Cycling 3000km from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South Island is one the worlds finest bikepacking adventures. I start on 6th Jan 2024 on the 90 miles beach as the tide goes out from 8am I have approx 6 hours to make it down this section. A lot will de down to luck such as the weather but planning the detail and carrying the right gear has been important.
