Since retiring in 2016, The Patchwork Dog is finding plenty of time to make quilts and still enjoys sorting through a vast collection of liberty fabric.

Made in Lewes is the workshop side of the business at The Patchwork Dog and Basket. In 2015 we moved from The Needlemakers to a new shop just up the road on Mount Place in Lewes where we opened a new shop and classroom and launched our online marketplace for the first time. We offer a range of creative workshops mainly focusing on the world of Patchwork and Quilting, but there's always a few other
things available too. Some courses will teach you a new skills, others are aimed at developing existing ones, and some a just for fun (or some creative therapy!). You can read all about our shop at our main website
or pay us a visit and have a day out in lovely Lewes.

- Looking back over great memories with this diamond dog. For those of you we haven’t managed to tell in person, sadly we had to say goodbye to Freddie back in the Autumn. He may have been small, but he made a big difference and we miss him everyday ❤️

Those of you who visited our little shop in Lewes will no doubt remember these little patchwork dog kits we used to sell. We must have made hundreds of them over the 14 years that we had the shop. The very last two are now on sale in our Etsy shop. The range is from a Liberty Lifestyle collection circa 2010, inspired by none other than the very local Bloomsbury Group of Charleston Farmhouse.

The Patchwork Dog and Basket was established in 2004 as a patchwork shop and sewing school. Originally based in Cuckfield, West Sussex, the shop moved to Lewes, East Sussex in 2006 where we developed a sewing school offering a wide range of courses and workshops with highly talented designers & tutors such as Mandy Shaw, Carolyn Forster, Lara Sparks & Janet Clare.
The shop itself offered a huge range of fabrics for quilting from the latest ranges from Moda Fabrics, Dashwood Studios & old and new prints from Liberty of London, specialising in particular in historical reproduction ranges and those designed and manufactured in the UK. the rest of the shop was filled to bursting with buttons, ribbons and specialist sewing supplies providing everything you could possibly need to make a patchwork quilt.
After 12 years of business, new adventures beckoned and the shop closed it’s doors for the last time in December 2016. Although passing on a large amount of stock to similar businesses in the area, The Patchwork Dog and Basket held on to its name (and a serious stash of Liberty fabric) just in case it was needed at some point in the future!
So, 2 years of retirement later, our fingers our itching and as if by magic we've found ourselves in possession of a large amount of vintage Liberty fabric - far too much to keep for our own uses! We've combined this with our existing collection and some handmade gifts to stock our brand new Etsy shop - we hope you like it!
Those of you who know us will no doubt remember the limitations of our technical capabilities (we're practically Armish) so please bear with us while we learn our way round this new venture!
More fabrics, bundles and other Liberty delights will be added to the store over the coming weeks.
