Join from June 20th-25th for their annual Climate Action! Festival.

This year’s “Back to Nature” theme focuses on how we can reconnect with our environment. The festival includes documentaries, films, talks, workshops, and activities showcasing ways we can take action and re-find harmony with nature in our everyday lives. Get stuck in and discover the importance of soil, fungi, faeces and the humble house plant!

Satellite events are also underway at Lewes Climate Hub as part of their “Taking Steps for Wildlife” season celebrating how we can all help our local Swifts, wildflowers, bees and trees 🐝

This year’s Festival has been cultivated by Depot’s Sustainability Manager Natasha Padbury, and restaurant staff Dora Batov and Mirabelle Seymour.

Natasha says of the Festival,
‘Never has the nature crisis been so stark and urgent. It’s encouraging to see such a groundswell of inspiring films and local initiatives which all point to nature based solutions as being critical for all living beings on the planet to live and thrive. We’re part of nature - so let’s start acting like it! There’s something for everyone so we hope you can join us for this year’s exciting festival programme’

11/05/2024

Starting next week, planned structural works will begin at 187 High Street and 2 Fisher Street, Lewes. Works to the Grade II listed building will include repairs to the shop front and roof as well as replacement of guttering and other rainwater goods. The basement, which extends below Fisher Street will also be strengthened to accommodate the weight of modern vehicles.

The works will be carried out over the summer, with repairs due to be completed in autumn 2024. The building will be closed to the public during this time and from Monday 13 May, the Tourist Information Centre will move down to 6 High Street, Lewes, which the team will share with Lewes District Council customer services and Lewes District Citizens Advice to provide a one-stop location, easily accessible location for information and advice.

187 High Street has been registered as a listed building since 1970 and has seen various uses over the years. 187 and 188 High Street were purchased by Albion Russell, boot and shoemaker in 1861, with the premises eventually becoming the first branch of Russell & Bromley. The site has also been home to a coffeehouse and a tailor’s and draper’s shop.

The area housing 187 High Street and 2 Fisher Street is medieval in origin and although there are various indications of how the site has evolved over time, it is unclear how much of the original built fabric remains. It is likely that 2 Fisher Street would have originally stood as a separate building, however with the construction of 1 Fisher Street and the neighbouring Town Hall, a single complex was formed. The immediate area occupied by the Town Hall complex is documented as the site of the burning of protestant martyrs in the 16th Century (see accompanying illustration).

We will share further updates as the work progresses!

There’s no such thing as the dog poo fairy.

Dog fouling in the district is enforceable by Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs), which are managed by ’s Neighbourhood First team. This means if you don’t clear up after your furry friends, you could receive a fine of up to £1000.

There’s no excuse for dog fouling. If you haven’t got a bag, will give you one. Speak to one of their advisors who visit all our parks and open spaces regularly.
