Kite flying is s popular hobby for many Indians, and each year on the 14 & 15th of January, in the state of Gujarat you can witness the annual Uttarayan festival, the biggest kite flying festival in the world. Open to competitors from around the globe, millions participate in the festival, see the skies awash with kites, flown from rooftops and terraces throughout the state.

The festival also announces the coming of spring, prayers are made to the Lord of the sun and traditional Indian sweets are eaten in abundance.

The festivities bring a fun atmosphere and competition is rife, so get ready to hear Kai Po Che, which means, I have cut the kite, (the opponent’s kite string).

The state of Gujarat is off most people’s radar but is in fact the birthplace of Mahatma Gandhi.

When you can’t decide between India and Nepal- do both!

The golden triangle is a popular route, especially for first time visitors.

Delhi is a picture of if history, find Mughal era buildings and the Lutyens designed buildings of the British. Jaipur is full of beautiful palaces and heritage hotels and Agra of course is home to the greatest romantic gesture of all time- the Taj Mahal.

Next fly to Kathmandu, here you can visit ancient stupas and take in the Nepalese life and appreciate the mixture of Hindu and Buddhist culture which is evident throughout Nepal.

Outside of the city, Chitwan National Park is great for game viewing, enjoy the views along the way through the mountains and along rivers. Next up is Pokhara, here enjoy boat rides, hikes and relax while you are surrounded by stunning mountain vistas. A great place to relax and unwind at the end of your journey.

The Galapagos islands are definitely one of the highlights of visiting Ecuador.

Situated about 600 miles off the coast of Ecuador, this group of islands are home to many endemic species, meaning you won’t find them anywhere else in the world.

One such animal is the Galapagos penguin, which unlike its Antarctic cousin which thrives in freezing conditions, lives in the tropics. There are only around 2000 left so they fall have fallen into the endangered category.

You can find them on the islands of Isabela, Fernandina, Floreana and Santiago but if you taking a swim with them then head out to Bartolome island.

You can explore the Galapagos by basing yourself on one of the islands and taking day trips out or if you want to explore further afield, opt for a yacht, this allows for exploration of islands further away. There is a huge variety to choose from depending on your budget and travel style.

Head into the hills and enjoy the cool mountain air.

If you’re looking to escape the heat of the lowlands, then visitors may seek respite up in the hills of the Nilgiri Mountains.

Ooty, officially known as Udhagamandalam was one of the summer vacations spots for the British and the railway was built in 1908 to facilitate their journey.

Visitors flock to take a ride on board the Nilgiri Mountain Railway, affectionately known as the Toy train which travels 26km between Mettupalayam to Ooty through 208 curves, 16 tunnels and 250 bridges and the full journey takes almost 5 hours, but you can take shorter stretches.

The train in featured as part of our South Indian tour and comes with your own private chauffeur. The holiday takes in many of the highlights of southern India including Bangalore, Mysore, Mudumalai for a safari, Ooty, and Kochi.

Maison Perumal is a quaint boutique property in the coastal city of Pondicherry. Once under French rule, the city still retains a strong French influence.

Bustling, energetic, full of positive vibes, that’s Bangkok!

The Grand Palace is a highlight, it’s beautiful and offers an insight into traditional Thai architecture. Bangkok has many temples and Buddhas and it’s easy to get around in a Tuk Tuk.

Food is definitely a high point here, and the street food is amazing, one such stop even has a Michelin star, the queues stretch up the street so be prepared to wait.

The night markets offer an array of goods, designer handbags if your pocket doesn’t quite stretch to the genuine article!

It is also a great gateway to the cultural north of Chiang Mai or the stunning beaches in the south

Thailand is now well on the way to be being fully open, so be ready to top up that tan!

The Trevi Fountain, a magnificent work of art originally designed by Bernini but after a long delay was completed by the architect Nicola Salvi.

The scale will take you by surprise as the surroundings are somewhat modest compared to the size and stature of the Trevi.

Legend has it that you stand with your back to it and throw a coin over your left shoulder, you will return.

Havana is without doubt an amazing place to visit, there is a distinct chilled vibe, nobody seems to be in a hurry.

Take a stroll along the Malecon, in the evenings, meet up with the locals who hand around for a chat, a spot of fishing or an impromptu sing song.

You will se countless open top 50s cars up driving around, it’s a must do in Havana.

Another thing you will not miss is the rows and rows of bottles of Havana Club rum and the best bit, the price is the same everywhere you go.

History surrounds you, stay at the Nacional, an old favourite with the rich and famous, it’s now a bit tired but the buzzy atmosphere still makes it a popular place. For a more central location, try the Iberostar Central, ideal if you just want to just step out and be right in the midst of old Havana.

For more of a local touch, try a Casa, run by locals, they operate like B&Bs and you’ll get a real insight into life as a local.

Cuba is also popular for its amazing beaches, Varadero is an hour from Havana, so it’s great for twin centre breaks.

Bali has long been a favourite with holiday makers and in particular a great place to visit in the European summer, unlike many other destinations in the far east which are affected by the Monsoon.

Bali offers numerous beach resorts and Seminyak offers visitors some of the best beaches and the sunsets are legendary.

South America is now open for business, and why visit one country when you can hop across the border and visit two?

👉🏻Start in the city of Tango, Buenos Aires, take in a tour of the city and perhaps visit a milonga, a traditional spot for a tango or enjoy a wine tasting,

👉🏻Next head north to Iguazu Falls, the Argentine side deserves a full day’s exploration, especially if you want to enjoy lunch and take a thrilling boat ride down the river, prepare to get wet!

👉🏻The Devil’s throat is perhaps the highlight of most people’s visit, and wooden walkways take you right up close, the sheer volume of water cascading over the edge makes a thunderous roar.

A few years ago, I was lucky enough to go on a safari to Kenya and the memories will remain with me forever.
I travelled in March, and I was lucky enough to see the cubs playing within the safety of their family groups. A lioness hunting to feed her cubs, hiding them away in the bush until she returned.
Kenya is blessed with an abundance of wildlife; the sheer numbers here increase your chance of seeing the big 5 as well as an array of other animals and birdlife.
Drive through the rift valley, the scenery is stunning, stop off at a coffee farm for an insight into the coffee making process.
But Kenya is also enjoys a rich tribal culture, for example a visit to a Maasai village gives local communities a source of income and visitors can gain an insight into their culture. The Maasai are an incredible people; the stories of their animal encounters will leave you speechless.
Kenya is also blessed with beaches, Mombasa, is easy to get to and offers hotels with a range of facilities and all-inclusive options. For those looking for a total escape, try Lamu, hotels are more on the rustic side but offer the kind of charm that is hard to find these days.
Safaris are available at different budgets, you can opt for a group departure and stay at larger lodges for budget friendly holidays. Those wishing to splurge can enjoy the flexibility of a private driver and stay at some of the smaller, more exclusive camps. Either way, you will be blown away by what Kenya has to offer.
