In July our CEOs Robert Dee and Tine Murn were back on a sales mission in the USA visiting some of our the key Europe operators in New England, inspiring them with our destinations and creating new itineraries. The visit took place exactly a year after we came to promote the Essential Balkans project, sponsored by Visit Europe and the European Travel Commission in 2023.

We were proud to learn that the project made a difference, with many US partners now including New Deal Europe destinations such as Romania, Montenegro, and Serbia in their future programmes.

There is still room for further growth, and we took the opportunity to promote other partner destinations in Slovenia and Northern Greece. We see a bright future for this 'last exotic part of Europe' in the US market.

‘OVER 1300 MEETINGS HELD AT
NEW DEAL EUROPE MARKETPLACE AND FORUM 2024’
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM

The greatest selection of South East Europe tourism professionals ever assembled took part in the New Deal Europe Marketplace and Forum in London on 16th April

The sold out event, covering destinations from the Alps to the Aegean, attracted a great number of tourism professionals, with over 90 buyer and 65 supplier companies participating in the B2B marketplace, a 30% increase on the previous year. Typical of the buyer reaction was Wesley Baker, CEO of Pure One Group who said it was ‘an amazing event. So much business has been achieved for me. Well done NDE on a fantastic event’.

On the supplier side, Vlatko Sulev, MD of Balkan Prime Tours in North Macedonia called it ‘a landmark day dedicated to the vibrant Balkan region’ adding ‘it’s been incredible to witness the evolution of NDE into a thriving community lead by visionary leaders.’

All twelve countries of the region were represented at the event. This year they were joined by a thirteenth, Italy, thanks to a guest delegation from the Slovenian speaking Rezija region.

The day-long event was officially opened by Tom Hall, Vice President of Lonely Planet, who highlighted the growing interest in the region from their readers.

All suppliers had a full diary of B2B appointments for the Marketplace, and in total 1,240 scheduled meetings were arranged, with many more taking place during the networking sessions.

In addition to the marketplace, delegates were treated to destination presentations from the national tourism boards of Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Moldova as well as from the city tourism board of Zagreb.

The Forum was opened by the Head of Research at World Travel and Tourism Council, Nejc Jus, delivering the latest data on tourism growth to the region. This was followed by a high profile panel discussing the boom in tourism to the region, examining if the growth is good for each destination and if it can continue sustainably.

The discussion was lead by Rachel Read, Director of Insight at ETOA – the European tourism association – with the panel comprising Melissa Tilling, CEO of Sustainable Journeys by Charitable Travel, Krassimir Kiriakov, Head of the Commercial and Economic Section at the Bulgarian Embassy in London and a former Government Minister, and Dritan Xhengo, MD of Past & Present Journeys, a DMC from Albania.

New Deal Europe delivers another successful partnership event in the South East Europe.
The Tourism and Travel Show Albania 2024, delivered in collaboration with Iceberg Exhibitions, took place at the end of January in Tirana.

The sold-out event featured a B2B marketplace with over 70 delegates, including 30 international buyers from the USA, UK, India, and key European markets. All the delegates at the B2B sessions had a full day's schedule, meaning around 1,000 meetings took place on the day. Robert Dee, Director of NDE, was joined at the opening ceremony by the Minister of Tourism for Albania, Ms Mirela Kumbaro Furxhi, whose support undoubtedly indicates the importance of this event for Albania. The event was followed by a two day fam trip in Albania.

This was our tenth event and third in the region, and we are experiencing an enormous demand for future events in other countries too. Our partners are firmly embracing the New Deal Europe way of organising events, and they appreciate the quality of the businesses we bring together, as well as the importance of the topics we cover.

Successfully Concludes ' ' Campaign

New Deal Europe (NDE) is delighted to announce the successful culmination of the 'Essential Balkans' campaign, a pivotal initiative delivered in partnership with Visit Europe. The campaign, promoting the allure of The Balkans to the North American traveller, focused on Montenegro, Serbia, and Romania. Selected earlier this year by EUROPE (visiteurope.com), New Deal Europe delivered this exciting new project to spotlight the enchanting Balkans, with the support of the European Union, the Tourism Boards of Montenegro - Wild Beauty and Experience Serbia, and the Incoming Romania Association.

Delivered over only six months, from July to December, the project made significant strides in reaching out to all major areas of the North American travel trade, with sales missions covering New England, New York, D.C., the Midwest, the Northwest, California, Ontario, Nova Scotia and Quebec. Results included crafting potential cross-border itineraries based on client feedback and rooted in extensive research and knowledge gained from visits to the region by the NDE team in early summer 2023.

A notable highlight of the year was New Deal Europe’s presentation to major North American outbound operators as special guests at the 'Around The World' breakfast during the 2023 USTOA Annual Conference and Marketplace in Los Angeles in December. The team also engaged, as an affiliate member, in over 40 meetings with leading partners in the North American travel industry at this event. This followed on from the highly successful ‘Limitless Travel’ event in the Summer, where New Deal Europe’s video presentation on the Essential Balkans destinations was watched by over 300 luxury travel advisors followed by a full day of B2B meetings with agents who were inspired by this to promote the region.

The culmination of the months’ long programme was a virtual marketplace, in collaboration with the European Travel Association (ETOA) – a day of B2B meetings which included educational destination presentations on each of the three countries highlighting their unique selling points to the trade.
A comprehensive report based on surveys and research, evaluating the activities undertaken and identifying future opportunities is currently being undertaken, and will inform the shape of the ‘Essential Balkans’ programme moving forward.
Tine Murn, Director of New Deal Europe, commented, ‘Despite the ambitious programme and tight timeframe, we're thrilled to report that numerous North American travel and tourism businesses are now considering these three destinations, and the broader Balkans, for their future programmes. We firmly believe that the continuation and growth of this programme is essential in order to realise its full potential.
