Korobo Tours is a local company whose aim is to bring open trail tourism and green travel to the south of Madagascar. We give visitors the chance to experience both the rich culture as well as the incredibly unique biodiversity of Madagascar, particularly in the Spiny Forest. The Spiny Forest is an ecoregion in the southwest of Madagascar which contains an outstanding proportion of endemic plant s
pecies. When visitors arrive in the Spiny Forest they are offered the sweetness of milk called habobo and this milk is traditionally kept in a gourd called the Korobo. For short you can just call me Monja Claude. I am from a small village called Andalatanosy Androy, which is part of the Spiny Forest, 70 km North of the capital of Androy, Ambovombe. My tribe is the Antandroy - thorn people, and I am Tandroy which means spiny man. I completed a guide training course with ANGAP, Madagascar’s national park service, which built my skills in ecotourism. I studied the flora and fauna of Madagascar, Malagasy cultural traditions, guiding techniques, and first aid. I worked at the Andoahela National Park for one year and there I increased my knowledge of the Spiny Forest's ecology. In 2002 I began to work with the non-profit organization Azafady as a guide for their pioneer volunteer scheme. Here I had the opportunity to improve my English speaking ability and learn more about environmental conservation and community development. I have guided groups from the UK, Australia, Germany, the USA, Colombia, China, the Netherlands, Denmark, Switzerland, Canada, South Africa, France and many more places. I love showing visitors the cultural and ecological sights of my homeland so contact me to arrange your visit to magical Madagascar!
