There’s no hiding the fact that the weather of 2023 is very hit & miss, not only here in beautiful Cornwall, throughout the UK.
We do appreciate that rainy days are really not great when you are on holiday. You want beach days & swims, ice-creams & sun tans….it can be especially challenging for families with young chIldren.
Despite the one uncontrollable factor, we really hope you are enjoying our magical corner of Cornwall & here are a few ideas that are low cost of free in & around Looe & Polperro.
WATER SPORTS - let’s face it, if you are going to get wet, why not enjoy doing it! Whether you are novice or expect, paddle boarding & kayaking are great fun and are available from Sea Explorers Looe Beach Hire Activities Adventure Fit Southwest with kayaks also available from Talland Bay Beach Cafe. If you want to trying something completely different, in addition to paddle boards E-Foil Cornwall (Plaidy beach) offer E-Foil lessons as well as the all new aqua e-bikes.
MUSEUMS - Looe Harbour Heritage Centre is FREE to enter and there’s a great coffee shop to enjoy too - as well as the indoor climbing wall which is run by Adventure Fit SW. The Harbour Heritage Centre in Polperro is FREE for under 16’s (adults pay £3); the Old Guildhall & Gaol - Looe Museum in East Looe is also FREE for children (adults paying £3). The fantastic Model Village in Polperro is just £3 for children (£3.50 for seniors & £4 for adults).
BOAT TRIPS - Getting out & about on the water starts from £10 for a 45 min trip whether on a classic speedboat or our glass bottom boats; you can also take a boat trip & land for 2 hours on Looe Island - the combined cost (boat plus landing we) being £8 for children and £17 for adults; you can also hire your own boat on the Looe River with Looe Sea Safari which, for a party of 5, work out at £7 per hour. LOOE LAND TRAIN - A trip aboard the new Looe Land Train starts from just £2 per sector - or a ticket for the whole day is just £5 (as a hop on - hop off servies with audio tour… and don’t worry if the weather is a little inclement, & it is covered !)
PUTTING GREENS - At Hannafore, Looe Bowling Club have two 18 hole putting greens which are only £2 per round for children (adults pay £3.50) - you can take the Looe Land Train to Hannafore and both Island View Cafe and Hannafore Beach Kiosk are nearby for snacks and drinks too.
PAINTING & FUSED GLASS CLASSES - in Polperro Coffee Cake Create owner Lesa offer two different painting & printing classes each week for £15 (ages £5+); in Downderry, The Glass Shack offers classes suitable for young people priced at £25 (for all classes, the materials are all provided) - you can find each class listing with links to reserve on www.welcometolooe.com/events
ANIMAL PARKS - within 20 mins of Looe & Polperro, you can enjoy Porfell Wildlife Park and Sanctuary Wild Futures Alpaca Trekking with Moor View Alpacas - their prices are posted on their respective website and start from just £6 for children.
FREE LIVE MUSIC - our What’s On & Events pages (links below) is stuffed full of great live music taking places in our pubs & clubs - all of which are free (and don’t forget the Looe Weekender is coing up next month (15th-17th) and the Looe Food Festival (10th) which are both free to enter).
