Captain Sami was no ordinary dog. Oh no, on this boat trip, he was very much in charge. With his ears perked and his tail wagging like a flag in the wind, he strutted about the deck like he owned the place – because, frankly, he did. xx

Congratulations to Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium for being a Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Award winner. Based on reviews and ratings collected over 12 months, the aquarium scored a spot at the top, putting it in the top 10% of attractions worldwide. The aquarium prides itself on showcasing marine life from the Jurassic Coast where visitors can hand feed their shoal of tame grey mullet, hold a starfish and get up close with lobsters and crabs. A trip to the end of the Cobb to visit the aquarium is a must thing to do when you visit Lyme Regis.

A dish with an abundance of flavour!

Mackerel is a firm Lilac favourite that’ll you’ll often find on the menu.
Our recent Mackerel dish was accompanied by a pearl oyster mayonnaise, earthy chard and sea purslane.
A delectable dish paired nicely with a fine wine.

A 14-foot Burmese Python, affectionately named ‘Bella’ by Monkton Wyld Holiday Park staff, was recently discovered on Scotts Lane next to Monkton Wyld Holiday Park in West Dorset.

Bella was found by Roger and Clare Hosking, who were staying at the holiday park. They initially mistook the snake for a large branch, but upon realising it was a living creature, Clare Hosking sent her husband Roger to alert the holiday park staff while she stood guard over the snake, refusing to leave until she knew it was safe.

Roger and Clare Hosking and the staff of Monkton Wyld Holiday Park worked together to ensure that Bella was safely captured by trained professionals, a process that took almost 4 hours.

Bella was subsequently transported to a nearby reptile rescue centre, where staff have confirmed that she is in good health and will receive proper care and attention.

Special Thanks
• Simon from Phelsuma Farm - Reptiles & Exotics, Ilton, Somerset, for collecting the snake
• Mr Roger & Mrs Clare Hosking, for their vigilance and concern for the snake's wellbeing
• Monkton Wyld Holiday Park Staff, for their assistance in ensuring the snake's safety
• Martin Ballam, for his help in securing the snake

The surprising discovery of such a large exotic snake near a holiday park in West Dorset has garnered significant attention, highlighting the importance of responsible pet ownership.

On the 80th anniversary of D-Day, we came together in Lyme Regis for a poignant Torchlight Procession & Beacon Lighting ceremony to honour the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Last night, Thursday, June 6th, 2024, we united as a community to pay tribute to the heroes of the greatest generation.

The procession commenced at 9.00pm, walking from the Cobb along the promenade led by a flag bearer and a Bagpiper followed by our town's Mayor and Mayoress with a large following of torchbearers until they reached the beacon on the seafront.

Readings were made by our Mayor David Ruffold and the Power Monkeys before the beacon was lit and the flames illuminated the night sky. The blazing beacon was a powerful symbol of remembrance and gratitude.

"Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning. We will remember them."

We shall never forget the courage and sacrifice of those who fought on the beaches of Normandy 80 years ago. Their legacy lives on through our shared commitment to honour their memory and cherish the freedoms they secured for generations to come.

We stood united in our appreciation for the service and sacrifice of our armed forces, both past and present. Together, we will ensure that the light of their memory never fades.

In loving memory of Lilah, a cherished companion.

Lilah, a name that echoes with love,
A faithful friend, now watching from above.
Fourteen years of joy, laughter, and play,
In our hearts, forever she'll stay.

From puppy days to her final rest,
Lilah's life was filled with happiness.
Running free on Lyme Regis shore,
Chasing waves and wanting more.

Muddy paws and wagging tail,
Adventures shared, a joyous trail.
With Sammi, her brother, by her side,
Together they played, their bond never died.

Though she's gone to doggy heaven,
Her memory lives, a treasured leaven.
Watching over us with loving eyes,
Remembering the laughter, the beach, the skies.

Lavinia, your heart may ache,
But know the love that Lilah would make.
She's left a mark on all she met,
A legacy of love, we won't forget.

Rest in peace, sweet Lilah dear,
In our thoughts, you're always near.
Until we meet again someday,
We'll cherish the memories, come what may.

Lavinia xx
