In many traditional Cyprus villages, locals make a cross using an olive leaf by a fireplace they make a wish and throw it into the flaming fire.

The person who throws the leaf must think of someone they love, and if the olive leaf makes a crackling noise and jumps when it is thrown in the fire, it means he/she is loved back.

Ever since 1932, when King George V gave his first radio broadcast on the BBC’s Empire Service, the Queen’s speech has been an important part of British Christmas culture.

Sadly, due to the Queen’s passing, this year will be the first time in “almost 70 years” a King has delivered the traditional royal Christmas broadcast.

Morning swim anyone? 🏊

Did you know, many in Ireland meet at their local beach on Christmas for a morning paddle. As you can imagine a very cold way to wake you up! Many take part in this swim as part of a charity fundraiser.
