Park Lane Hiking Club

Park Lane Hiking Club Subject The Park Lane Hiking Club

This group is for people who want to walk and talk i.e. netwalk! So we decided to resurrect it.

I formed this group with my wonderful friend Len Gordon ( 1942-2014) which walked from 1995 -2010 then stopped. Well here we are again run by me and my friend John Thompson. It was originally intended for people who were working and who were prepared to take a day off ‘netwalking’. But lots were working and numbers dwindled then but all these years later a lot of people on the mailing list will be retired or working part time . Will Kintish [email protected]

A 9 mile circular walk . We start off at the industrial revolution site of Quarry bank cotton mill and pass through the village of Styal with its medieval cross before walking through the woods along the River Bollin . We enter open Cheshire countryside reaching Lindow Common where the preserved body of a man ( nicknamed Pete Marsh) was discovered in the peat bog in 1984- he is believed to have been killed between 2BC and AD119 and now on display at the British Museum.

OUR NEXT HIKE ON WEDNESDAY JUNE 23rd 10.00 am start

Meet at Hayfield Bus Station

https://what3words.com/perused.ratty.numeral

There is a car parking charge at the bus station which we have tended not to use, as there are local streets with free parking.

The bus station is sign posted left, off the A6015 coming from the A6.

The left turn is just before the main A624.

The walk is about 8.5 miles, climbing NE out of Hayfield up the Snake Path to the Kinder Reservoir with magnificent view of Kinder Scout.

We then continue south past Peep O Day Farm and round on to a northerly path to the Radio Mast above Birch Vale

We finally walk down to the the Sett Valley and back to the start.

Probably a 4 hour walk, depending on stops, as like all good walks, it has "its ups and downs"

We then descend into Tockholes plantation and woods, visit the ruins of Hollinshead Hall, and follow the River Roddlesworth and visit the adjoining reservoir, to a final pull up, back to the start of the walk. 7 miles, 1000 ft of ascent
