So much to see on our river walk at Walkworth today but what a lovely surprise to see what I think is a juvenile Cormorant. Positioned on a boulder in the water only a few metres from the bank and totally oblivious to us. 😍

Sad news as our beautiful boy ‘Vivyen’ crossed over the rainbow bridge today.
He was the last of our three original Alpacas and came to us when he was 11 months old. He turned twenty in May and we will miss his cheeky antics.
Many of you met Marmion who came on loan two years ago to keep him company when we had lost Ernie and then Shaun.
Marmion has gone back to his herd today and has apparently settled back in with the boys, asserting his position quickly and effectively.
It’s the end of an era for us.
It has been a joy and a privilege to have the opportunity to live alongside these wonderful creatures. 🌈 💔 😢

This tour includes a cruise around all the Farne Islands, viewing the sea birds on the cliff faces, visiting the Grey Seal colonies and also follows the route Grace Darling and her father took during their heroic rescue in 1838.

Personally not a lover of the increasingly dark nights and September always heralds changes for the children… starting nursery, school, new schools and now for my youngest University looms. Very proud of the man he is becoming and an exciting future but an empty nest looms … 🥲

Some of you will know we started Guide Dog Puppy Fostering this year. Last week we hosted ‘Marshall’ who was unimpressed when Alf wanted to nap outside The Running Fox.
He initially woke him up by tugging on his leash a couple of times - when that succeeded in getting Alf upright he decided it was time to take him walkies! 😂 What a boy! ♥️

This juvenile was instructed by a parent to sit and wait here which it duly did ( I know - unusual for a teenager 🤣) for about 15 minutes

The destination was Alnmouth today. A 29 mile return journey through fantastic scenery. Mainly up hill on the way back so a sneaky ice cream at Morwick Dairy helped morale. We’re using electric bikes but keep the power down to a minimum to increase our fitness levels 🤪

Visited the house today at Cragside and it is now better than ever. More rooms open the public. And of course …The electric room!

7am and the Ceanothus is covered in hundreds of bees and sounds like a helicopter preparing to take off. If you buy one plant this summer make it this one and do the bees a huge favour! 😍 ( Also known as a Californian lilac) I planted this one when Ben was a few months only - around 18 years ago - it’s around 18ft tall now and it makes my heart smile 😊

Cycled to Stanton today and met these beauties ♥️ Anyone with experience of horses know how old the dial might be?

Just me and a cup of tea watching Alpacas who are loving life after being relieved of their winter coats - just like me really! 🥹♥️ 🌞

Marmion in action! Five minutes after replacing and refilling the water because he had removed one and used the other as a foot spa - Marmion is at it again 🤦‍♀️😂

A heavy frost here this morning but fortunately Vivyen and Marmion believe breakfast is a meal better served cold 🥶 😂 ♥️

The Story Of The Barns

Hidden away in the heart of Northumberland you’ll find The Barns, home to The Dairy and The Hide. Our secluded setting makes it hard to believe that we’re only 5 mins drive from the A1.

We have lived at The Barns for 16 years now and have been developing the buildings and the grounds throughout that time. We started with The Barns to house our blended/growing family, then started work on The Dairy and The Hide

Phil and I are pictured here with our two youngest, Megan and Ben - we were on our way to kiss the Blarney Stone in Cork - not that we need any help when it comes to talking!

We love our corner of Northumberland as we have all of the joy of living in a rural location and we are centrally located between three villages: Longhorsley to the South, Longframlington to the North and Felton to the East - all of which are only five minutes drive. Our nearest towns are Morpeth (15 mins South), Alnwick (15 mins North), Rothbury (15 mins West)... 15 mins to the East brings you to the beautiful Northumberland coast - perfection!!!!

So given we love it here we decided to share it and see what others thought and fortunately we have had lots of great feedback and met some wonderful people on our journey.

Its essential our guests love dogs as our three adore people and other dogs! They are pictured here in the middle of our pine wood - our next project. Do you have any idea how hard it is to get them all in one shot?

Sparki is the eldest at 12, a Lhasa Apso AKA The Boss. Ringo is 9, a Labrador - The Good Guy. Alfie is 2, a Welsh Springer Spaniel ... I have no words!!!! They are all super friendly, sociable & very gentle.

Time to introduce some more very gentle inhabitants... our three pet Alpacas. Our boys have been with us for 14 years now - for whatever reason they weren't suitable for breeding so we rescued them! We have Ernie, Vivyen and Shaun and whilst not halter trained (we just couldn't do it to them!) we can help you to feed them by hand.

They are pictured here at the rear of The Dairy where they can be seen daily grazing in the pasture - occasionally joined by a deer or two!

We love birds and could probably own a holiday home of our somewhere hot if we hadn't invested so heavily in bird food. The Hide is so named because not only is it the perfect hide away from it all, it is also a great spot for bird watching. This image of a Barn Owl was taken from the bedroom window in The Hide.

This Greater Spotted Woodpecker is a regular visitor and in this shot was trying to open up the Woodpecker nesting box visible from The Hide.
