So we decided that we should have a staff team building day, and went for lunch at the Beaumont in Hexham 👍

32 day matured steak, truffled pave potatoes with cafe de paris butter, absolutely amazing…… thinking that this team building stuff is excellent for staff morale !!

So we popped onto the Metro, just outside of Ponteland and headed into ‘Toon’ for a visit to the Laing Art Gallery to see the Turner Exhibition and then wandered back to the Grainger market for some street food lunch, Spanish today 💃

If you haven’t been to the Grainger market, it’s a historic indoor market, with an eclectic mix of stalls.
A good selection of street food, cafes, butchers, fabulous vegetables, fish counters, mixed with heafty dose of Del boy 😅

The National Open Garden scheme offers the opportunity to visit private gardens for charity.
We have some beautiful ones over the next couple of months, and started with Lorbottle Hall, near Rothbury, once the home of Jean Muir.
A fantastic walled garden, with the gentle clip of croquet balls in the background 🪴

🌳 Today is Celebration Day: an annual day to remember the lives of those who are no longer here and who have shaped us. To mark the day, the National Trust has presented The King – their Patron - with the first seedling grown from seed collected from the Sycamore Gap tree. The tree was a popular landmark which grew in a natural dip in the countryside along Hadrian's Wall before it was chopped down in September 2023.

When the seedling has grown, His Majesty hopes to scale it in Windsor Great Park, where in time the wind will help ensure that its seeds, in their turn, are still more widely distributed. Part of the power of trees to move and console us lies in the continuity and hope they represent: the sense that, rooted in the past and flourishing in the present, their seeds will be carried into an as yet unimaginable future.

If you walk down to the river, the banks are covered with wild garlic, collecting the leaves is fine ( pulling the bulbs up is not )
anyway wild garlic mayo and pesto, and planning purée to freeze.
