Kicheche Camps – where the wildlife comes to you!
Leopards are masters of stealth, often blending seamlessly into their environment. Spotting one—whether lounging in a tree, prowling through tall grass, or emerging from shadows feels like uncovering a hidden treasure. The guides at Kicheche are some of the best in Kenya and are experienced in selecting the optimal positions for sightings. Their passion for wildlife is infectious. The camps are positioned in a private conservancies, this allows the wild animals to wander undisturbed offering guests an up close and personal encounter with some of Africa’s notorious wildlife. Robyn has designed a 12 day safari that begins in the wildlife-rich Masai Mara at Kicheche Mara Camp and finishes at Kinondo Kwetu at the coast. See the link below

Hwange Community Rhino Conservation Initiative - Zimbabwe

History was made in May 2022, the arrival of Thuza and Kusasa at the first community rhino sanctuary at Ngamo sparked the interest of other communities along Hwange's southern boundary creating the second community rhino sanctuary - the "Mlevu Rhino Sanctuary" in September this year. A new batch of scouts has been recruited and trained, high-tech wildlife-proof fencing has been erected, boreholes have been drilled and equipped, a scouts' base has been set-up and scrub clearing has opened even more grazing land for rhino. This is a ground-breaking community-led conservation effort that has successfully spearheaded the return of white rhino to Hwange and is something we believe is worth celebrating. If you want to learn more about the incredible conservation efforts in this area chat to Francis -

These 'desert-adapted' elephants go to extraordinary lengths to reach vegetation to eat. We think Kevin one of our clients managed to capture the acrobatic prowess of these mighty animals perfectly during his stay at Honanib Valley Camp in Namibia.

It's baby boom time
Green Season (November – March) is the best time to spot babies. The arrival of rain signals to the animals that food will soon be abundant and it’s time to give birth. Antelope, such as impala, eland and wildebeest are seasonal breeders. These animals will start to rut during May, when the males will fight with other males to become the herd's dominant breeding bull or ram. Mating for each species happens around the same time ensuring that the births happen in quick succession. This synchronised birthing tactic is an effective survival strategy. Baby antelope are easy prey but with so many babies born at the same time, the overall chance of survival increases. The average gestation period of an antelope is about 6-8 months if you travel from November to January you are likely to experience the newly born antelope on wildlife drives.

The largest mammal migration on Earth
Often overlooked in the wildlife world, bats as creatures of the night play a vital role in maintaining ecosystems, insect control, and the regeneration of forests. Their ability to travel great distances makes them the perfect messenger for dispersing seeds across fragmented landscapes. They can be seen in the millions in Zambia, making it the planet's largest mammal migration. For front-row views of this spectacular phenomenon, visit the treetop hide at Wasa Lodge and witness the sunset skies flood with bats as they begin their hunt for the wild Masuku fruits in Kasanka National Park.

We love it when our clients send us photos from their time on safari, these incredible snaps were caught on camera by David during his trip to Botswana in early June.

“We were watching a kill of these painted wolves and round the corner saw the bee-eaters in perfect light just huddled up together - it was amazing. The painted wolves had just killed an impala. It was a pack of 15 we had followed and they took the kill back to their young who were waiting nearby, what an exciting experience.”

Hwange welcomes two new rhinos
After a lengthy road trip across 700km of Zimbabwean roads, Hwange welcomes its newest members to the community, Asenze and Mlevu! They were eagerly greeted by the community, with hundreds gathering to welcome and help them settle into their new home. This is just the beginning of Imvelo Safari Lodges’ ambitious project to return the white rhino population to community land in Hwange. By working closely with local communities, they aim to establish a highly protected rhino sanctuary, to reduce human-wildlife conflict, and to support the community by generating tourism in the area, and boosting employment opportunities. It’s about offering guests extraordinary wildlife experiences with a positive impact on local communities.
