We’re delighted to be working with Northamptonshire Police on Operation Workforce - which follows a recent visit to the town centre from Acting Chief Constable Ivan Balhatchet and Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner Danielle Stone.

During the visit we were able to facilitate meetings with several town centre business owners who shared their experiences and highlighted areas of concern.

As a result we are now seeing direct action from Northamptonshire OPFCC and Northamptonshire Police to help make our town centre a better place to live, work and visit.

Demolition work is being carried out by the owner of former Balloon Bar in Bridge Street, Northampton, ahead of the tribunal deadline of 6 September to address the safety issues with the building.

Once the demolition work has been carried out and the area has been made safe again, Bridge Street will be reopened to traffic.

This is a complex demolition and we have weekly meetings on site so that we can regularly monitor the work, which at present, is on track to meet the deadline.

We would like to thank all businesses, residents and road users for their patience during this time.

We are delighted to be welcoming Northamptonshire OPFCC Danielle Stone as our guest speaker at the next BID Business Networking evening.

The event, to be held at Mercure Hotel Northampton from 5.30 pm on Tuesday, 17 September, will focus on town centre crime - with Danielle outlining her vision for how Northamptonshire Police can support businesses affected by issues including shoplifting and anti-social behaviour.

Everyone attending will have the opportunity to ask questions, share their concerns and find out more about what is being done to make our town centre a better place to work, shop and live.

Businesses will have the chance to network and discuss the latest developments in the town, including the much-anticipated reopening of the Market Square.

The Amazing Northampton Run is returning to the town on Sunday, September 15, with the race starting at 9.30am. This event comprises a half-marathon taking in the heritage, history and sporting offer of the town, along with relay and three-mile races.

Last year, we saw a huge increase in footfall in the town centre and surrounding areas as a result of the event taking place, not just in terms of runners, but through their supporters and family.

The BID is providing financial support to this event and has access to the finishing straight. If your business would like an external banner created to display in this prominent position get in touch by emailing [email protected].

Heritage Open Days, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, returns in September with many events arranged across West Northamptonshire.Heritage Open Days is a once-a-year opportunity to explore some of the area’s unique historic buildings and sites.

Businesses are being urged to create spectacular window displays charting the history of their buildings and the town centre as part of Heritage Open Days. We are grateful to have been donated a trophy previously won by Thomas Love - a well-known retailer in the town who was much loved for his extraordinary displays of fresh fish and game.

The BID is planning on awarding the trophy to a business that produces the window display that gets the most ‘likes’ in a gallery to be posted on our page in early September.

If you are interested in taking part in the shop window competition, please email [email protected] for more details.

Historic and cultural sites across Northamptonshire are invited to take part in this year’s Heritage Open Days, which will take place between 6 and 15 September.

Venues such as stately homes, buildings of historic interest, museums, places of worship, and archaeological sites can now register to participate in Heritage Open Days, which is England’s largest annual festival of history and culture.
The festival offers the public free entry to places that might normally be closed or have an entrance fee, and where admission is charged, venues will offer something new to see, with many connected by Northampton Transport Heritage buses’ free hop-on hop-off service.

West Northamptonshire Council is an official promoter of the event and a list of all participating attractions and events can be found on the Council website, which will be updated regularly as more attractions register.

Events will include a film of Northampton’s evolving Market Square, a student showcase of Northampton’s rich heritage, and fun runners getting into the heritage spirit. More details will be revealed shortly on the WNC website together with details of where and when the heritage buses will be running.

Registration can be completed by emailing [email protected].
