It's go time!
🌱
Second spring is here and we're going all out planting cold hardy crops that can help feed Oxford through the winter and keep our soil healthy and thriving.
Feeding the soil takes great compost! We're feeding our compost with used coffee grounds from @missingbeancoffeeshops
Tomato pruning fun! We should have tasty tomatoes at our market within a couple weeks.
Fun to learn about new plants as part of our project on immigrant veg and cuisine with @museumofoxford #growingthings #farminglife #cityfarming
One of our Community Growers here at the farm, Bradley, talking about the compost we buy in, made from Oxfordshire’s green & brown waste bins, our final post for #foodwasteactionweek this week.
The quality of compost we use is so important as we want o give our seedlings the very best start in life to grow our tasty & nutritious veg 🌱
It’s Food Waste Action Week this week and Bradley, one of our Community Growers here at the farm, is sharing how we use our kitchen food waste alongside other organic materials to make compost that we then use to grow our vegetables!

Today is World Soil Day, an annual day celebrating the importance of healthy soil and advocating for sustainable agrifood systems.
We asked Bradley, one of our Community Growers, to share a little about how we look after our soil, the importance of healthy soil and why World Soil Day is close to his heart…
See the full length video here: https://www.oxfordcityfarm.org.uk/latest-news/world-soil-day
Lucie is one of our trustees and has been with Oxford City Farm since the visioning stages, before we even had the site here at Cornwallis Road, and she always knew we would one day have goats on site...
Thank you so much Zoe Broughton for putting this video together for us!
PS. Find out more about joining our goat programme: https://www.oxfordcityfarm.org.uk/latest-news/goats-at-the-farm
Our new chicks being interesting and adorable as well as our awkward teenagers going through a phase and making a mess of things 😂 the older chicks will be heading outside this week to a very protected coop and run where they'll be protected from predators and the older and bigger hens while they mature and everyone gets to know each other

Natural nest sites for birds such as holes in trees or old buildings are disappearing fast as gardens are ‘tidied’ and old houses are repaired. Providing a nesting site in your garden gives you a glimpse into a key part of the lifecycle of birds.
Blue Tits, Great Tits, House Sparrows, Robins and Starlings will all happily use bird boxes so by installing one you are encouraging new visitors to your garden!
We have a few dotted around the farm, why not see if you can spot them the next time you visit the farm?
We're open this Friday 10am-1pm and Saturday 10.30am-1.30pm so why not bring your children and wander round together?

Really excited that the IT Services team from Oxford Brookes Uni have chosen to support Oxford City Farm for their team building day! Can't wait to see the progress throughout the day.
Thank you to @tnlcommunityfund
A huge thank you to the National Lottery players that have made the Community Fund grants possible. We can't wait to offer more community farming and field to fork cooking sessions to empower people to produce food locally and live sustainable lives. #NationalLottery #MakeAmazingHappen #nature #food #community
Sheep appreciation!
The boys got sheared this week in preparation for the heatwave.. it was quite an adventure - so big thanks to all involved. Shaggy is feeling the love

Memories @oxfordcityfarm
Look at what we have been up to at Oxford City Farm! Enjoy the memories 😁
Our gorgeous pigs left the farm on Wednesday, thanks so much to Mark and Jane Cooper for lending them to us- they did a fantastic job on the bramble and made us all very 😊. We shared some of our harvest with them as a thank you..
If you'd like to see more animals on the farm, please please help us meet our fundraising target in the last two weeks of our crowdfunder!

Can you help us bring water and electricity onto the farm?
Without it we won’t be able to have any lovely goats, chickens and pigs permanently on the site or open the farm as a resource for the whole community to enjoy and benefit from. We really appreciate the support we have had so far but to be on track to raise the full £12,000 we need to reach our half way mark - £6,000 - by this Thursday (with cheques the current balance is £4,935).
Here are just a few of our lovely volunteers who are working really hard to make it all happen!
Donate here http://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/help-build-oxford-city-farm and please share....
Great morning editing our crowd fund video with Jim fromHobson Curtis Films Ltd thanks so much and of course also to #Zoe Broughton and all the fantastic students from Film Oxford who made the first cut.. on general release at our launch on the 22nd June.. the count down has begun!
Pumpkin Work Party pictures that happened today at the farm. With a warming bonfire, friendly people and gorgeous homemade soup with sourdough bread. There were people digging, hammering and enjoying a lovely autumn day. A big thank you to all the volunteers that gave their time and energy to the event and we hope to see you again.
