⚠️ As it's warming up adders are being seen basking in the sun in the dunes and on the coastal paths.
Adders usually only bite in self defence if stood on or if they get disturbed, but be aware adder bites are a possibility.

Wild snakes are protected by law in the UK and it is an offence to intentionally injure or kill an adder

At 1156HRS on Easter Sunday, HM Coastguard Padstow Search & Rescue Team were tasked to a report of a dog over a cliff in the vicinity of Mother Ivey's.

Newquay coastguard search & rescue team and Padstow Lifeboat were also tasked to the incident.

With the support of our colleagues from Newquay, and with safety cover being provided from the water by Padstow ALB, we deployed one of our cliff technicians to rescue the dog. Having made friends with Uma the Spaniel, our tech then safely secured her in our animal rescue bag and the team recovered them to the cliff top.

Uma was then reunited with her grateful owners. They have given us permission to post the attached photograph, and having had a lucky escape, wanted to join us in reminding dog owners to keep their four legged family members on leads when walking the coast.

Padstow CRV returned to station for 1330HRS, ready for the next tasking.
