Set in Cumbria’s idyllic Lyvennet Valley, Midsummer Barns, both Moon and Dove, began life in the early 1600s as a Westmoreland stone barn. It remained in use until the 1960s, but since then had become a virtually derelict structure. In midsummer 2019, Chris and Caroline Addison began a complete restoration project, to convert this ancient listed building, set within a conservation area, into two l

uxury self-catered holiday homes. Midsummer Barns provides a welcoming retreat for up to twelve, with each barn accommodating six guests. The barns are located in the centre of Kings Meaburn village and share a large orchard, which has also been lovingly recreated during this restoration project - though each barn has its own patio. Nestled between the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales national parks, with easy access to Hadrian’s Wall and the Scottish Borders, the Midsummer Barns are perfectly located for visitors wanting an active holiday while avoiding the congestion of the central lakes. Please contact us if you’d like to come and experience this beautiful corner of the British Isles.

Though it’s been a wet and wild old week there were some slithers of sun to get out and enjoy. We ventured up Gowbarrow at sunrise one day then a speedy race up Harter fell in between showers to play in the snow!

The Midsummer Barns - Moon Barn on the left and Dove Barn on the right - are looking gorgeous in the spring evenings right now.

We would argue that mid May is the best time to visit this idyllic part of the world, with all the great weather giving the best views and without the queues.

We have a little availability in both through the remainder of May and the beginning of June. Please get in touch if you’re looking for a short spring break or a longer summer trip.

Did you know that in addition to being dog friendly, we are also bull friendly?

Please meet the lovely Lyvennet Kingsman, our youngest pedigree bull. Our family have bred pedigree Simmentals for over forty years and with the barns located just next door you will often get a curious simmy peering over the garden wall or being taken for their morning stroll up the village!

Wild swimming in the Lyvennet? Indie and Brie certainly approve. A short ten minute stroll from the barns will find you at the Lyvennet River (that feeds in to the River Eden). If you don’t fancy a quick dip you can enjoy a beautiful walk all along the river that is punctuated by various ancient remains. We’d strongly recommend rounding off the walk at .yard so you can enjoy the best coffee going!
