1 Wreay Cottage is situated in the village of Shap – “Stepping Stone to the Lakes and Fells”.

It sleeps 4 people and welcomes up to 2 well behaved dogs. Situated next to the parish church, 1 Wreay Cottage has a long history, first as stables for the vicarage and later as a farm worker’s cottage. Now transformed into a cosy hideaway in this busy little village, it serves as a base for both the Lake District and the Howgill Fells. If you just want to hibernate in front of the log fire or s

it out in the garden, then Shap has all you need - a very well-stocked Co-op, an award-winning fish and chip shop and a couple of pubs serving food just a 10-15 minute walk away. The local community also hosts numerous events in the village, including history talks, a pop-up cinema and other social gatherings. Further afield (but not very far!) are the lakes and mountains - 6 miles away is Haweswater, with its drowned village of Mardale, where the street and field boundaries are still visible in drought conditions. Pooley Bridge and Ullswater are 10 miles away. Even closer (3 miles) and much quieter is Wet Sleddale, which is actually a reservoir, but makes for a very pleasant 3.5 mile walk around its shores. The ruins of Shap Abbey are a mile and a half away - a pleasant spot for a picnic - and the Wainwright Coast-to-Coast Walk runs through the village. The busy town of Penrith is 10 miles to the north, with Kendal 17 miles south.

For all you followers out there - Kate, our busy Housekeeper (and my gorgeous Daughter!) - she of the little travel soaps in the cottage - begins her visits to the summer Country Fairs this weekend. So if you are in the Penrith area tomorrow, or Coniston on Sunday you will be able to say 'hello' and buy her lovely products. Both events promise to be a great day out in the countryside with lots to do, and at the beginning of the school holidays too. See her full range of products via the link below.

We're thrilled to kick things off at the Penrith Agricultural Show this Saturday, Brougham Hall Farm, Brougham, Penrith, CA10 2DE - parking is available on site and a FREE Park & Ride service from Penrith town centre.

Then, on Sunday, we're heading to the Coniston Country Fair at Coniston Hall, Coniston, Cumbria LA21 8AS

Our summer timetable is now online to book.
It will run from 1st July to 3rd September.

There will be a few tweaks in the first 3 weeks of July due to Shap School using the pool, but the booking system reflects that.

We have a couple of Monday and Tuesday sessions on as extras too.
