Was up in Swaledale anyway so it would be foolish not to spend 4 hours dashing round taking photos of the light show. This was a 30 second exposure to pick up the light on the fields, but it also brought out more of the colour in the sky.

Had the choice of 10 hares to photograph in the fields this morning. Magical to watch them. Has anyone seen them boxing yet?

We had a flurry of activity last week, with 10 of the 17 tagged birds now back on their breeding grounds in the !

They've been holidaying mostly on the Lancashire coast, Ireland, and Wales and some stayed quite close to the Yorkshire Dales (who needs to travel when you live in the Dales? 😉).

Have you seen your first returning waders?

keep up to date with the curlew travels and the BTO British Trust for Ornithology led project on our website 👇

Probably the favourite sheep photo I’ve taken this year, it’s got sheep a stone wall, snow and a little waterfall offset with some skeletal trees.

Many reasons to visit Reeth,Arkengarthdale and Swallowholm

There are many reasons to visit Reeth in the Yorkshire Dales. You probably have your favourite things to do there? My visits always start with the delights at Two Dales Bakery. Just round the corner is Laceys Cheese (we've just booked one of their cheese-making courses), the other-worldly Graculus Sculptures, and The Threshing Barn. I'm always stunned by the beauty of the images at Scenicview Gallery and love the small hidden garden at Hudson House. Nearby is the ice cream parlour, several pubs, and Fleece. The small but perfectly curated Swaledale Museum (check opening hours) has some really intriguing exhibits. At the bottom of the hill, you'll also find the excellent Dales Bike Centre (more cake!).

Reeth attracts many visitors who come to walk and enjoy the stunning views of Swaledale and Arkengarthdale. Do you have any favourite walks or routes you can share here? (If only to justify starting and finishing a walk with a visit to a cafe/pub!)

Tis the season! That's right - tupping season 💚💛🧡

This fantastic photo of a flock of sheep walking down Cracoe Road to pastures new, shows the array of coloured rear ends ewes have at this time of year! 🐑

During mating, the tups mark the ewe with a coloured paint called 'rud'. The rud colours are very important as they indicate parentage and the due date of lambs in the spring.
